married women still in school..

married women still in school..

This is exciting, my first official newlywed post and of course its a question lol..

Okay, I have one year left of school to go and i dont want to mess anything up so i'm looking for some advice. I'm thinking my best bet would just be to wait the year and then change my name instead of having to worry about changing my name around which might possibly mess up my loans/grants and knowing my school they'd probably end up somehow 'losing' credits with a name change.

so my question is.. has anyone else changed their name or just waited to graduate and then did it? and if you did change your name was it a lot easier then i'm anticipating? or am i better off waiting a year because its not really that big of a deal anyway?

thanks!

I wasn't dealing with loans, but I changed my name at the beginning of the school year this year. I just had to fill out a form at the school registrar. It wasn't a problem at all. Most stuff goes by social security number, so changing your name shouldn't affect financial aid or credits.

ETA: Congrats and welcome to the other side!!

I'm not dealing with loans either, but I didn't bother to change my name in school at all. I changed my name everywhere else but it is important to me for my degree to be in *my* name. It hasn't been an issue except that sometimes in class I write the wrong name!

I am not dealing with loans either and was not going to change it. I finally decided last week that I should change it so that my diploma matches the name on my resume. I just figure it would be easier that way.

If you want to wait my sister inlaw waited until just before their first child was born, over 3 years after their wedding.

I feel the same way. This past summer I was done with school but I kept my maiden name for all business activities and certifications.
