Anyone own one, or know someone that does?? We're trying to decide between this and the Ford Edge. The CX-7 seems like a comparable car but at a cheaper price. I know NOTHING about Mazdas and have been doing some research... but was wondering if anyone can give some insight.
TIA!

Mazda is Ford.
They are the same company more or less and the CX-7 is very much like the Edge. You can't go wrong with either one.

Re: Mazda CX-7
I have it!!! LOVE the car... I've had it for 2 years. We can fit our two dogs in the back and go on trips with teh baby and all of our gear and hers.
Super peppy to drive handles like a dream and we've had no problems with it! Gas mileage is fair for the size fo the vehicle...not a guzzer like a lot of SUVs because it is a cross-over vehicle.

Mazda is not Ford...while they may be owned by Ford they are two separate companies and separate factories. they cars are built very differently..... You can't compare the two cars, Mazda is MUCH BETTER JMO

Most of the Mazdas have Ford components- parts, engines, ETC.

Re: Mazda CX-7
Just went through this same debate in September. My biggest issues with the CX-7 (which is why I didn't buy it) was the gas mileage is pretty poor for a smaller crossover SUV and all wheel drive is not standard. If you can deal with crappy gas mileage the rest of the car seemed really nice, was fun to test drive and I think Mazda makes a nice product. Don't know if you are interested in Subaru's at all but I ended up buying the newly remodeled 2009 Subaru Forester (won SUV of the year )and really love it. Not quite as much pep (although there could be if you got the turbo) but otherwise amazing, all wheel drive, great size w/ huge amount of passenger room, 22/28 gas mileage, and very dependable/safe as subaru's are . Also the price tag is great even if you get the leather upgraded package/heated seats etc. You might want to check it out. Didn't look at the ford edge so have no opinion on that one, sorry! Good luck and have fun choosing:)

Re: Mazda CX-7
I don't have a CX-7 but I do own a Mazda. I have a Mazda 3 Hatchback. It's a very dependable car but the gas mileage for city isn't that great. I get between 23-28. Highway is 30-35. Otherwise, I have no isses. Pickup on my car is fantastic (and I've heard that it's the same for the CX-7), my car is very roomy and I have a lot of storage space. My friends parents have the CX-7 and they love it.
This is my personal opinion, but, considering all the problems that Ford, GM and Chevy have been going through financially in the past year I would stay away. Who knows if they're going to even be around in a few years.

We were actually planning on checking out the Subaru Forester but never got around to it this weekend. Maybe we should make some time, and take a look.
Thanks for the info ladies!

What Ford shares the 2.3L turbo-4 with the CX-7 and highly limited edition Mazdaspeed 3's & 6's?
Not to be snarky but you really can't say that the Ford and Mazda are basically the same.....

I just looked on the web and found that they are built the same within various models. I would never drive either cars but heard they are built relatively the same... Mazda 3 compares to a Ford Focus. The 6 compares to the Fusion. The Edge compares to the 7 or 9. Ford used to design for Mazda. Mazda designs a lot like Ford in some aspects. I don't give a shitt but to go further into a debate over this is retarded. My Husband's a mechanic and knows a lot about cars. I am getting my info from him.
