ME and John Anthony are HOME SWEET HOME !

Original post by anna

Hi EVERYONE !!

HUGS HUGS HUGS TO YOU, 'my girls',

John Anthony and I are home, sleeping every few hours and getting to know eachother.
Aside from the exhaustion, this has been the most amazing experience in my life. (and I cant wait to do it again !!)

OK, where do I begin, I read all of your posts. Thanks SO MUCH for all your good wishes, and for cheering me on, and for chatting with my sister !

I'll start with my birth story (maybe i'll do a few different posts so it doesnt get too long, after all, I can create a LONG post just answering a simle post)

MY BIRTH STORY : (It will be a little repetitive since my sis posted, but I'll have more details !)

We got home from Flowerfield and dinner on October 8th at about 9pm. We just hung out watching TV. I asked DH to take more belly shots (I couldnt get enough of knowing my baby was in there!!) so I posed for some belly shots (not knowing I would be going into labor 3 hours later!!!)

So at ten to midnite (little one HAD to interrupt our anniversary !! LOL, but of course he had to haave his OWN DAY, being born the NEXT DAY, hey who could blame him !!) I just got up to pee, no pains, and there goes some water dripping, so I go 'JOHN.....my water broke' in a very calm tone.
Well he got up SO FAST, saying 'Really??, OK LETS GO' and he got up, and got dressed in about 60 seconds. I was telling him 'wait, I have to call the Dr. and see what they tell me' (all along Dr's tell you not to call them unless your water breaks or you are in SEVERE PAIN-they dont wanna see you till you are READY - how rude!) Well I called and my Dr. told me to meet her in the ER.

ABOUT CONTRACTIONS:
I had been having some all day on the 8th, but I guess I have a high pain tolerance because I never really said 'ooh, theres a contraction' I just considered them sporadic contractions, my body 'getting ready' and they never felt consistent enough to be timed. Even before I went to be on the 8th, I felt some 'pressure' as I called it, and DH was like 'well lets time it, tell me when you feel it next' and I really blew it off saying, 'no its hard to time it, its not really consistent, i'm fine, thanks honey'....

So we went to the ER, filled out paperwork, and were sent to the L&D floor, where they put me in the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE BED in the WORLD !
It was like a crooked shaped bed, not comfy, horrible. We sat there pretty much till 6:30pm (we're talking from 1am !!!) I went from the bed to the glider, to the chair. I really couldnt deal with lying on that bed. I was getting back-aches, and getting flushed from being so helpless about the situation. I got a fever to 102 that nite, I forget when, and I was telling them 'well it was that BED that caused it !!!' I dont do well, once I'm stressed and getting flushed, and not able to wash my face and brush my teeth, my 'refreshing' routine !!LOLLLL

So I was dilated from 1cm, to 2, to 5 ( I dont remember the times, I have to see if DH does), and at 5 my contractions were SOOO BAD, that I was begging and cursing for the anesthesiologist to GET THERE ALREADY for my epidural.

DEMEROL - at 3cm, I got Demerol, which is pain medication, and which makes you WOOZY to say the least. I felt like I was in a trance-like state, mumbling stupid things, smiling and dozing off every few minutes. DH was freaking out because the last time he saw me like that, I had fainted in a jacuzzi in his arms, yikes. So he was really nervous about seeing me like that. I HAVE NEVER FELT SOOOO STRANGE and OUT OF TOUCH like that....wanna get high ? Try Demerol ! LOL.

So next, I was 7cm, then by 6pm I was 8cm. The Dr's were changing shifts, and the 'new' Dr. told me the 'shpeel', that my pelvis was very narrow, the baby's HB was decreasing, I had a temp, and he recommended a C-section. We pretty much just took his advice, and said 'ok, lets go'. I'm sure there are lots of people that would have fought it and asked for another opinion and really TRIED for that ******l delivery, but just knowing that the baby's health/safety was at hand, I wanted to do whatever needed to be done. So off we went to the OR, and my sis was also able to join us ! I was so happy. You know how there are 'good nurses' (b**ches) and 'bad nurses' (dolls), well the nurse at that moment said 'just ONE PERSON in the OR with you' and DH, knowing how close I am with my twin, said 'if you want your sister to go, I dont mind' and he sincerely meant that, he knows that she is my other half, if my heart skips a beat, hers takes over, she is my heart and soul...
Anyway, I really wanted DH to be there also, I would NEVER have asked him not to be there, and deprive him of seeing his first born come into the world. NEVER EVER EVER. Even though he's not one to enjoy even having blood drawn, I wanted him to experience this...so on this issue, I FOUGHT the nurse. I said 'PLEASE, SHES MY TWIN, I've been to all 3 of her kids deliveries, this really means alot to me' and she was just raising her eyebrows as if to say 'you got the answer'...or 'oh well too bad for you'... and then the anesthesiologist who BONDED with my sister, who was also a twin (THANK YOU GOD !!!!) said 'come on guys, she's her TWIN, you dont know the TWIN THING, SHE IS GOING IN, Lucy youre going' and the Dr. just looked as if to say 'OKAY' and nodded his head... so they gave DH and sis their scrubs and off we went...

About 20 minutes later, I heard ITS A BOY !!!!!
I was awake the whole time, numb from the chest-down, DH and sis sat right behind my head, and were getting up to peak every now and then, and sis got some great pictures. As soon as we upload them, I'll post some. The anest. was going 'Lucy this is a great shot, get up, LOOK !!!' DH and sis were afraid to make any commotion, and here was our angel friend, the anest, who was egging them on ! GOD BLESS HER ! When they left the room, she continued to pat my hair, talk to me, etc. She was amazing. She was telling me how amazing my sister is, with breastfeeding, what a great sis I have, etc, how CUTE !!
Me, how I felt, I was EXCITED AND OVERWHELMED with joy at the same time. When I saw the baby, I was really in a state of shock, couldnt beleive he was MINE, I CRIED CRIED CRIED like a baby, I was in a trance, overwhelmed, its a feeling that cant be explained.....

We got home yesterday. My hospital stay was OK, good and bad moments... I'll post some separate posts so that this one doesnt get any longer and since my other posts will be about different topics we can discuss, BFing, what your body goes through, etc etc..

PS-Through it all, DH has been UNBELEIVABLE, its all talk that they say 'I wont change diapers'. I have been overwhelmed with how much he was been helpful, understanding, has been by my side through every second, has been my coach, my champ, and SOOOOO GREAT !!! I never would have thought this, boy was I WRONG !!!!

Thanks for listening, Thanks for being there !!
You guys are the best !

Re: ME and John Anthony are HOME SWEET HOME !

Hi girls,

Sorry I havent been around. Got my stitches removed today (yep ALREADY !!) I was gonna ask the doc if it was gonna hurt, and I had to laugh at myself, after what I went through, I would ask if snipping a few stitches would hurt ??? HAH.

John Anthony had his first Dr's apptmt. All is well.
I took pictures, they probably think im nuts, lol.

Remember when we posted how to write John Anthony if I want him called John Anthony ? Its funny because on the form at the Dr's office they ask NAME and then WHAT YOU WANT CHILD TO BE CALLED and I specifically put JOhn Anthony in both slots, and sure enough they call him to be seen by the Dr. 'Johhhnnn ???' so i said to DH, there goes 'John ANthony' . He doesnt mind in the least because thats actually what he wants and prefers, but I really love the name Anthony.
I guess whatever he is called in school, I wont be able to help it, and as he grows up and has his own personality, he will decide what he wants to be called. Is John Anthony that long of a name ?? BOO HOO. There so many names that are 4 syllables that people use, why pick on my name ?? LOL. and spelling it all as one makes it awkward. Some Italian names like GianLuca (another one of my favorites!!!) and GianCarlo - they ARE spelled as one, but it LOOKS different spelled that way as one, it looks right... i dont know.. any opinions ??

Phyl, youre on the countdown !!! I cant wait to hear news ? It will fly by ! How are you feeling ?
Are you planning to breastfeed ? Just wondering because I am, and I am finding it VERY challenging this first week. My sis is BFing her youngest 2, ages 20months (yep shes nuts) and 3 months, and she is the best pillar of strength and devotion out there on breastfeeding, and even with her a phone call away, I am kinda struggling... thats another
post...

Elizabeth, how ya doin ??

Thanks again everyone for your well wishes..!!

My sis loves you all ! and will be back to say hello!
Debbie, she lives right by you, you should go out for a cup of coffee !!

Re: ME and John Anthony are HOME SWEET HOME !

My opinion on the name John Anthony is that if you want to use it, don't hesitate to say 'His name is John Anthony' or 'We prefer John Anthony' or however you feel like phrasing it to let people know that Anthony is not just his middle name but the name you prefer. You may or may not down the line decide to call him John but I think at less than 1 week old (or is it a week already?!?), you have a right to use the name you chose for him. People will easily catch on but you know with practically anything, there are those people who will need to be corrected. My nephew is John Nicholas. My SIL only recently started calling him John without the Nicholas, I think mainly because she named her youngest is Nicholas 1 1/2 years ago but anyway the point I was going to make was that she called him John Nicholas, the family all called him John Nicholas and so he was always introduced that way, and most people understood that he was not just John. It just takes a little correcting at times but no, it's not a hard name at all. You should definitely not have to defer to what more common for people so soon.

LOL about the stitches coming out hurting...that's something I would ask!

Re: ME and John Anthony are HOME SWEET HOME !

I dont think it is too long at all-- and I agree with Elizabeth --it is really up to the parents in the beginning to stress the name that you want-- My cousin had James Anthony(our RB) and he will always be James Anthony to me and to most but now that he is 9 we tend to just say James-- I love Anthony too!!!! wish DH would allow it!!!
He is afraid cause I always say Antny as a joke!!!
