Migraines and nitrates???

Migraines and nitrates???

Does anyone know if there is a connection? I get 'small migraines' - the headache isn't terrible usually, but I know it's a migraine because of the dizziness and blurry vision I have before the headache. Last week I got one at the hair salon and I had eaten salami that day, and my sister thinks hers are triggered by the nitrates in the salami. I am getting one right now and I had one piece of salami last night!!!! Could this be true???

I have heard that nitrates can cause headaches but I thought it would have to be more than just one piece.

Honestly I would think the chemical fumes you breathed in the hair salon were more of a cause then tehnitratesin salami. I am really sensitive to chemical smells and ofter get migraines triggered by stuff like that

Nitrates can trigger migraines. There is some medical correlation I read somewhere . I used to get migraines all the time, especially after eating foods high in nitrates, like salami, pepperoni, and most brands of hot dogs. I try to limit my intake on these types of food.

I don't eat them often but they are good once in a while ... never got one after a hot dog that I noticed, only the salami. I love salami!!!!

I think there are salamis that are free of nitrates. Go to Whole Foods and see.
