MIL vent

Why does my MIL have to be so negative?

We got our proofs back a few weeks ago. I was somewhat disappointed in them. Not that the pictures were bad, but they weren't as creative and photojournalistic as we wanted.

I have been trying my best to make the best
of it and say that there's not much we can do about it now, and we're still going to have a beautiful wedding album, which I truly believe we are. The pics we have are beautiful, just more traditional

DH just spoke to his dad who said my MIL was 'very upset' with the way the photos came out. Now, even if she feels that way, does she need to make us feel bad by telling us?

My mother looked at the photos, and although they weren't exactly what we wanted, told us that there are still so many beautiful ones there, and we're still going to have a difficult time choosing our album, which is totally true!

We haven't even spoken directly to my MIL yet, but we will tonight, and she just tends to be negative about things in general, so I know she's going to end up making me feel worse about something I've been trying to make myself feel better about....

maybe trying to counteract her negativity will help you to feel more positive about your proofs?

hmmm..maybe if i start saying how much I love them, i'll start believing myself..not a bad idea!

Your avatar is adoreable... And it seems like the really good ones that you have will be more than enough for your album, & your album will turn out perfect!!

Thanks! My avatar is a picture my friend took, not a proof! The proof of that same pose isn't as good.

Maybe she said that to your FIL and it wasen't supposed to be repeated ?
Maybe your FIL took it stronger then she meant it?

I've learned over the past few years to listen to what is said directly to me because everyone else has the ability to twist things. It doesn't sound like she said it to you (atleast yet)

If you had my MIL she would have loved the pictures just because you were dissapointed in them. Mine takes joy in any unhappiness that comes our way.

I know I should wait until I hear it directly from her, if I do. It's just that I know how negative she is about things, so I'm becoming almost prematurely upset about the conversation that I think is going to occur tonight.

I hear ya. Dh and I do that and have made a game out of it. We try to figure out the most obnoxious things they could possibly say and when sadly they do say it in most cases we atleast chuckle or smile, and the family has no clue what's going on.

Your proofs are wonderful-they are so many great ones to choose from, even if they are not as 'photojournalistic' as you wanted.
Your wedding album will be as beautiful as your wedding was!

I am so sorry and I can totally relate... My MIL is also very negative and has made COUNTLESS comments about my wedding, the picts, the hall we picked, the food, our engagement party, etc... You just have to let it go in one ear and out the other.
Whats important is that you and DH are married and happy.
