Money on European cruise?

DH and I are going on a cruise in Europe and I am not sure about the cash to bring. We want to change our dollars to Euros before we leave, but we really don't know how much money to bring. The only time we are leaving the boat is for shore excursions, which we paid for already.


I was thinking of changing $500 into Euros and bringing that. Is that reasonable?

$500 sounds good and dont forget you can always use the ATM to get more cash if you need ?'(souveniers food) - also dont forget the Euro is stronger than the dollar - I think $500 to start off is good though and then use the ATM as you need it.... Good luck and have loads of fun!!!

I dont know how long your cruise is but $500 converts into about 310 Euro. I guess you just need to determine how much out of pocket you'll need for souviners /tips/pocket money.

Where are you cruising too? I always wanted o go on a European cruise! Maybe someday!

we went on a mediterranean cruise for the first leg of our honeymoon. we never used cash on the ship because they take your credit card info and anything like drinks etc. is charged to your room and you can settle it at the end either on the card or with cash.

you might need euros in the airport, and you can pay cash on the ship I think they just prefer you use your room card. Do NOT convert in the airport - I got royally screwed with the exchange, it was like 1 Euro = $1.78 meanwhile it was 1.60 everywhere else.

we went on a meditteraean cruise last month. We exchanged about 600 dollars or so for the excursions. Depending on where you are going, you may want to sample the local food, get some souveniers, etc. Better to exchange more. You can always exchange back what you didnt use at the end. The cruise ship didnt allow you to use cash. You settle your account at the end.. Enjoy your trip. We had a great time.

Thanks everyone! We are taking a mediteranean cruise as well for 1 week! Can't wait. We leave Friday. Going mostly to Italy, a little France and Sicily.
