Mortgages

Mortgages

For those of you that own homes, what is the first step to get a mortgage? DH and I are looking at garden apts in Bayside, and if we find one we want to be ready with a lender. Should I call my bank, or other places? I know that real estate agents can refer us to a lender, but don't know if this is the best idea. I don't know where to begin. TIA!

If you are looking to buy I would say you should get pre-approved/pre-qualified before you start to look seriously. You will most likely need this when you make an offer. Sellers around here expect it. To find a lender you can ask around for references from your real estate agent (a good will try to recommend you a good lender because they want to see the deal go through), friends, LI weddings posters, family, etc. You can search online about the process and for some questions you may want to ask. Also, there are some good books out by Robert Irwin that are easy reads. They explain the basics of buying well. FH and I had been looking for a while and we are finally in contract!!! Forum mail me if you would like! Hope this helps.
