mothers day drama!

OK, so my sister in law called us like a week ago and said she was making dinner reservations for all of us and my mother in law for sunday night. Ok great, so I figure Ill have a nice brunch for my mom that morning either at our place or out somewhere. Well, I talked to my sister today and apparantly my mom is hurt by that. She feels that I am just 'fitting her in' when I can . ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, we have done so well with holidays up until now, making everyone happy and now im so frustrated! Were thinking of having both moms and there significant others over our place for dinner on Saturday instead and then just stopping by on Sunday with flowers or something. What do you think? (sorry so long!)

Holidays always will be horrible now that youre married...heck they were horrible for me just dating or being engaged!!!!

I personally hate mother's day/ father's day/ thanksgiving etc where I dont even consider them holidays....I do not like feeling obligated to do something to make my mother happy when every year she hates anything I do

So ...yeah...I feel youre pain

That is tough. We just got married and we're going to separate for Mother's Day - its too much to do both - I want to be with my mom and he wants to be with his. Could you separate or do you feel strongly about both being together to see them? Have you tried talking to your mom to explain that those plans were made a while ago and that's why you planned on doing what you were going to?

Good luck, I'm sure it will work out.

This is why we are both working on Mother's Day.

Personally, I feel your mom needs to bend a bit. You're married now, and she needs to understand that there are 2 mothers that you need to go see. It's just like any other holiday - you need to start doing your own traditions.

I think it's fine that you go to her for brunch and then with your MIL for dinner. We have done the same thing and it all work out and everyone is fine with it.

If this is causing such a problem for you, I suggest that maybe next year have BOTH mothers over for brunch and make it a full family gathering.

You can never please everyone. It sounds like your mom might be feeling a little jealous or resentful of the fact that you have another mother in your life now. I think its normal, especially for the first year of marriage. Get through it this year, make sure you know what YOUR mom wants first next year, and take them as they come. If its the same thing year after year, then you have a problem on your hands. I think it should get easier though... this is all part of the fun.

Re: mothers day drama!

Ok, so things are ok now! I talked to my mom yesterday and we decided to have her , my sister, and grandpa , and mom's boyfriend over for dinner saturday night and then sunday we will stop by in the morning with flowers or something and do dinner later with DH's mom , phew! I'm glad everyone is pleased now. I think my mom's initial reaction was jealousy/resentment, but she thought about it and is ok now. I felt bad that she felt that way though because we are very close and I never want to make her feel that way. oy vey!
