mouse hunting day 2

mouse hunting day 2

let me preface this by saying that the ONLY reason why we have mice apparently is because my lovely FIL refuses to get an exterminator right away because hes scared his dog is going to get sick... meanwhile, within the month they're going to have to put her down.. please explain this...

anyway- last night while attempting to watch Juno & chat on LIW a mouse began squeaking & squealing out of control. This lasted for about an hour (no, vin wasn't home. He was out in e. yaphank @ a friends)

I kept calling my FIl to come down and look for the mouse, no luck. Finally after about an hour & now continuous squealing, we found it- stuck in a trap- mouse #2 caught

Finally while attempting to sleep I was awoken at 2:30 by an awful loud snap. I KNEW what that sound was.. So needless to say, this am, while cuddled up in my blankets, Vin went to do his rounds & check the traps... Finally i hear 'Ohhhhh Fuuuck.. Babe, don't come out here.. I think we got the mom, this one's huge.. ' Mouse #3 caught. We think that's it. as of now all the traps are still clean & the exterminator is coming on Friday (hopefully) to check for the hole by the stove & seal it up..

Ill keep you posted as my mouse hunt continues!

no, thats the deal we made. If FIL won't allow us to get an exterminator, vin HAS to check the traps.. Its actually kinda sad. Vins dog is 14 & is having constant seizures, refuses to eat, cant use all 4 legs- she uses 3, shes now deaf, she has a collapsing trachea... shes a mess. Now shes taken to throwing up bile.. Poor thing needs to be put down.. But FIL refuses.. I hate him for it.

Sooo needless to say, he doesnt want to risk the fragile dog

aw i am so sorry for your trouble. i can definitely relate. we live in an apt and have had a mouse problem for months. it has caused me so much distress as things with fur are one of my biggest fears. and our stupid landlord would only put traps out...never an exterminator. and guess what....in about 7 months we never caught a single one in a snap trap or a glue trap. we've been saying we have a genius mouse. also, the people upstairs FEED IT. they leave bread for it. can u imagine? so finally the landlord called terminix and they left some gross black boxes with poison around that the mice are supposed to eat and then die within the hour. lets hope. its been a few days and no carcasses yet. mice suck.

I had to empty the traps once cause DH was away on business...i felt so bad for killing them! I am a huge animal lover...even mice...haha

I think this would be grounds for a divorce for me...I CANNOT CANNOT stand mice. If I saw one I'd die. Just shrivel up. I SOOOOOOOOOOOO feel your PAIN!

Dh's old cat was 21; stone deaf, chrnoic kidney issues so always ahd UTIs, stiff in the joins, couldn't clean herself so always smelled like urine..Cat looked like something out of Pete Semetary and he would NOT put her down. kept saying she was enjoying life...needless to say by the time he did he waited too long and it was harder than it should have been. My heart is with your DH for his attachment but he needs to show some love for his dog and put her down so she stops suffering, and he needs to show some love or you and GET the exterminator!!!

Godo luck!

Poor dog, that's just torture to let an animal suffer that way. As much as it hurts to put an animal down, they can't suffer like that. The dog is not going to get any better.
I put my cat down when his cancer got so bad he couldn't eat or really drink anything anymore. He just gave me that look one day that told me he was suffering. Cried at the vet's office but I had to do it. He was my baby.

Do you have peppermint oil??

My mil is TERRIFIED OF MICE. She told me once that Mice HATE the smell of peppermint - so she bought me peppermint oil - as a nice smell around the house, and also to keep the mice away JUST IN CASE.

I put it in a small tealight holder all around the house....

HTH!
