I could probably put this MSW in the garbage. My gosh...Ive been interviewining since I got back from my honeymoon. The $ is terrible and the jobs are horrendous. we were thinking of moving to nassau...maybe bc there seems to be highr paying jobs that way anyhow. I should have been a nurse...lol so many jobs my gosh!

Re: MSW degree
How about school social work jobs? That is probably where the money will be. A friend of mine was a school social worker before she moved to FLorida last year.

Re: MSW degree
It's definitely a challenge and so sad since the work you do is so important!!!... how long have you been out of school? My first job after I got my masters in counseling, I made like no $, less than the majority of my friends w/o masters. It completely depressed me but within the next 4 years, I almost doubled my salary. Now I am working on my PhD in Counseling, doubt the monetary payoff will be worth it but it's worth it for what I am doing/learning. Good Luck!!!

I live in VA or else I'd share some insight on where to apply, not sure about where to apply on LI. I got my degree from Columbia though and did my internships in the city. My favorite clinic hired me to do fee for service work after I graduated, The Center for Children and Families, now just called Safe Space (I believe). Do your former supervisors or professors have any leads or thoughts? (you probably did this already)

Pardon me if this is an ignorant response, but can you start your own practice? I don't know what's involved-sorry again if I didn't make sense.
Just trying to help.

Not usually right away, it's difficult to get clients. And to get reimbursed my insurance, you need to obtain your license, for some insurance cos. you even need additional years of post license supervision before insurance will reimburse.

Re: MSW degree
After four years of 'paying my dues' I finally got a job in a school. There are so many agencies on long island that hire social workers, but I cant vouch for the pay. If you are looking to get into the schools, try some of the agencies that place SW in schools. Granted, your salary will come from the agency, but the experience with kids is what the schools look for.

Its just a really bad time right now. My friend graduated in May with her MSW and has been interviewing since then and she's still unemployed. Just keep looking, good luck.

Re: MSW degree
I know there's an agency called TEMPO that places in schools. We have a TEMPO social worker in our school.
