Go through them and pull out all the ones you like, even if it is more than you will have in your album. Your album should tell the story of your day so you can loosely put them in sequential order. Then from there you can get a better feel for how the album should unfold. Usually photography studios allow 1-2 hours for the visit where you decide your album. They will be able to offer a lot of suggestions that you may not think of and help you really make up a nice album. They just want you to come in at least with it narrowed down out from 400 pictures! We had 36 pics in our album and I think I narrowed it down to 50. One last thing: Obviously you are looking at 5x5 or 4x5 pictures and sometimes when they are enlarged for the album, you may not like the shot as much for whatever reason. My studio said that if I really hated any of the shots, they would replace it free. But only for a album. So I waited till I got my album before I ordered the other enlargements. You may want to ask yor place about this. Have fun! You will be so happy when you are done.

Our photographer helped us pick for our album (which I still have to pick up!). The way they did it was to separate the pics into categories (ie. family, wedding party, bride and groom, etc), and then sub-categories (ie. ceremony, reception, posed, etc) and then start picking your favorites from there. It really helps you narrow it down, and it helps so you don't have repetitive pictures. Hope this helps! BTW, I would love to see some of your pics from Oheka Ayanna! Good luck!

One other thing...

Ask the studio about retouching of pics. In the entrance shots to the reception, you could see the EXIT sign over my mother`s head. They were able to edit that out of the album pic...

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who waited to the last minute before going to the photographer!! LOL :0

I did mine THE NIGHT BEFORE and ended up being there w/the productionist (or whatever he's called) for over 4 HOURS!!

But what Elizabeth and LisaW said is great advice. Pick out all the ones you 'think' you want and he/she will go over it with you. It is supposed to tell a story of the day and how it transpired. The person helping you will tell you whether the pics you picked will enlarge good, if the color is good, etc. I ended up ditching some of what I picked, but on the other hand, I ended up putting 12 more pics than I was supposed to have in my album (no thanks to me and my hubby), and ended up spending another $1,000!!! Not to mention how my DH decided he wanted a 30x30 for our portrait (from a 16x20 that was 'too big' for him when we booked) and how then we went back 3 times after that because we couldn't agree on the picture! I hope you won't go through that!!! :)

It can get somewhat stressful because you want all of them in there, but remember, you'll always have your proofs, so it's not like you won't have a copy of a certain pose. Also, if you plan on blowing up certain pics, wait until you get your negatives back, because they charge you an arm and a leg and since you'll get the negatives when you get the album (and you've waited almost a year by then anyway), you can bring them to CVS or wherever and get them done for half the price!
Good luck and have fun!!!!

Here's what I did.

Clear off your table. (MAKE LOTSA ROOM!)

Lay out your pics, like Elizabeth said, in sequential order. I first did PILES of each PART (ceremony pile, reception pile) and then broke those piles into dancing, speech, etc etc. I put VERY similar pics together, this way i was able to easily take out any where I may have had my eyes closed or something. and this way you can also scrutinize them well, is everyone looking at the camera, pic your best of the similar shots and put the others away. far away, lol. I had 700-800 proofs. This did take a while, a few days. If you need to use the table while youre doing this, right down the pics you are choosing. Also towards the end, when you have chosen pictures in seq order as you want them in the album, put them all next to eachother to retell the wonderful story of your wedding day !

It takes a little patience, but it's worth the hard work ! This is the best album of your life !!

Oh, go ahead and put those pictures in that you normally wouldnt ! I said 'what the heck' and added alot of candid shots, of things like our personalized menu and centerpieces on the table, kids blowing bubbles, me and the guys hanging out outside as they smoke cigars, a shot of our hands holding. I tried not to make it too conservative and serious, so i added some of those shots.

Have FUN !!

We have 1200 proofs...

So we're going to need lots of room!!! Thank you for the advice!! We'll start with the piles by category and then pick out what we like! My husband loves them all, so I'll have to limit his imput:o)!!

I can't even think about picking out an enlargement!! It took us DAYS to select the SIZE of our thank you photo (we went with 3.5 X 5), though my husband chose the picture fairly quickly.

I don't know if I'm looking forward to this, which is why it took us a year to make an appointment!!

I'm going to print out all your advice so that I can have it with me when we START this process!!!

Aaagggghhh--Wish me luck:o)!!!

We have 1200 proofs...Me too!

Hi Ayanna,
I am in the same boat as you. We started working on ours a couple months after the wedding and then we just got overwhelmed with it and put it aside. Way too many proofs to make easy decisions with! I actually think we are going to end up doing 2 albums just so we can use all the photos we like. I think we are setting our goal for getting it done in June! Good luck! I'm glad I'm not the only one waiting to do my album.
