Ok my DH has a thing each night, he wakes up and goes in this half awake/half asleep mode to the kitchen and drinks something or munches on a snack. Sometimes I wake up because I hear him other times Im in lala land sleeping, however last night i was awaken by his scream. He was leaving the bedroom and walked into a pack of wooden hangers that i had bought in ikea last week (bc he was busting my chops that his clothes are on plastic hangers and mine are on wooden, so to please him I got him wooden ones) anyway..... so i hear him screaming, almost crying about his fricken toe (the one next to the pinky) he comes back to bed and is shaking, seriously like he's having some kind of attack, shivering cold, asking to turn the ac off because hes freezing. i gave him 2 aleves and he put some sports/against pain cream - I wanted to go to the emergency room at 3am but hes'like what are they going to do? we'll see how it is in the morning. So his whole toe is basically blue & its sooo swollen, and he limps when he walks. (left foot) so he told me he was going to go to the hospital BUt he calls me and says he spoke with the guys at work and they told him its gonna go away on its own, DH also told me that he broke his toe before (other toe) and that they put a cast on but he took it off anway. Now mind you, i dont have any medical experience nor have I ever had anything broken so ........ can this really go away on its own? what to do? he should really go to the ER right?
TIA

Re: My DH broke his toe (i think) kinda long
Nothing really that can be done for a broken toe. He should tape it to the one next to it (the middle one) for support, and put ice on the toe to help with the swelling. 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off. It will heal on its own.

Just tape them together-that is all the hospital is going to do and ice it.

yup, the hospital cant do anymore than a trip to cvs can. they have stuff (like bandages and small splints) that can be used.

i dont think the hospital can do anything for you, i agree with the rest of the girl i think you just need to tape it together witht he toe next to it for the next few days

Re: My DH broke his toe (i think) kinda long
My DH 'broke' a toe a few years ago (he jumped up to grab his niece's balloon that was floating away and then landed awkwardly on it, lol) and he really didn't do anything about it. He tried taping it to the toe next to it, but that was really it. It's ok now, but every once in a while (esp when it rains) he feels it cramp up! Unfortunately like the other girls said, there really isn't much you can do for a toe...

Yep. I broke my toe on Sunday and they're taped up. Nothing else you can do.

The guys are right- not much to do for a broken toe
I broke one in college and I taped it up and they told me to stay off of it as much as I could.

I think you can save the ER bill and tape them together. The best thing is to imobilize it and Ice it.
