It drives me crazy. We got our DVDs this week and she called me TWICE today while she was watching it. Without exaggeration, she's watched the video over 25 times.
While home for Christmas, she'd make comments about how its great to have me home but it was more fun last year when we were wedding planning.
She misses having bridal magazines around the house (she had way more than I did).
I appreciate her enthusiam, but its a bit much. She gets more excited about it than me! Can't she move on? Can we talk about anything other than the wedding? Its almost a year later!
Thank god she has two more daughters to marry off - though neither of them soon.
(thanks for the vent)

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
Lisa - I can totally relate! We were engaged for a year before the wedding and my mom had a count down going constantly. And since its been over she still talks about it, using it as a reference point in time for everything! Don't get me wrong, I loved my wedding too, but it does get to be a bit much. I'm one of 4 kids, and the first to be married, and I actually feel bad when she talks about it so much when we are all together...I'm sure my sibs are sick of it and I don't want them to start resenting me b/c of my mom's attention. Anyway, I don't have much advise, just hang in there!

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
DH's mom is like that. She carries around her copy of our wedding video - I am serious!!! Once, we were at a mutual friends house and, of course, she mentioned the wedding and all of a sudden MIL pulls the dvd out of her bag and we start watching the video! She has also memorized every part of it, all of our expressions, reactions, etc.. I was making fun of her, but in a way, it's sweet.

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
Lisa, my mother still watches our unedited, she told me today she loves the unedited, even tho she loves the edited She walks around with the proof book everyday. I love my mom, but I think she enjoyed the wedding more than I did. I guess being an only child doesn't help much

My mother and I talk about it on and off. It was her day, as it was mine. She was really proud about the way everything turned out.

That must be it Natasha, b/c when she came over 2 Saturdays ago to see the album, she was rubbing her hands over the pix and saying, it was like a fairytale, so perfect, so beautiful. Moms they are the greatest *mine is*

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
I imagined my mom would be this way - and she was for the first 6 months after we were married, then my brother got married, then my sister and now she doesn't talk about weddings at all.
Either way, I'd rather her talk about the wedding than constantly ask when we're having kids!!! (which she doesn't - thank god)

This seems to me like the curly haired people straightening their hair, and the straight haired people who get perms.
I read this an it makes me so sad. I wish my mother had been that excited about my wedding. I had a hard time getting her to watch the video once with me when we first got it. Phooey.
Oh well. I guess I need to be grateful for what I have, looks like others would want it!

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
My Dad/stepmom and siblings was SOOOO glad that 'my year' was over. They got sick of all the wedding to-do stuff. I think it is really sweet that your Moms are so excited still. My Mom barely ever mentions the wedding at all. She was pretty uninvolved during the planning and now that it is over she is doesn't think twice about it.

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
I think my mom was more let down after the wedding than I was! It's not too surprising, since it's such an exciting time in everyone's lives, and when something consumes you for so long (for me - 1 ½ yrs!) it's bound to take a while to let go of....
But then again Lisa - you got married a few mths before I did, so you may be more if hearing about it than I am - yet, at least!

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
My mom was excited with helping me during the planning, but we just about did EVERYTHING by ourselves with no help so at times it got to be alot. Although we enjoyed such a special time together last year that we looked forward to for a long time, I guess we both could say it is so good to do other things and not have the pressure of deadlines of getting things done,etc..

Lisa - what are you gonna do when you move back to NY
I'm sure your Mom will calm down soon....it can be difficult for family members that were very involved in your plans to 'get over it' once the wedding day is gone. My aunt cried for a week after my wedding...my own mother didn't even get upset! Maybe you can get your Mom interested in helping you guys find real estate listings to look at when you come home for visits. That will give her something else 'to plan.' Otherwise, you're just going to have to get pregnant and then she can plan your baby shower, etc. LOL!

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
No babies yet Claud! Luckily she's not harping on that yet.
I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining. I was very lucky to have parents who were so excited about the wedding, and I've seen first hand parents who are not (the comparison between my parents and Al's is shocking). But it would be nice to have a conversation with her that involved something other than my wedding. Eventually you have to put the wedding behind you and move on, right? Well, its that much harder to do when its all I hear about.
And I'm sure its hard on my sisters too. My older sister got pretty down hearing about the wedding planning all the time when her love life wasn't going as she'd hoped.
I'd just like her to take some interest in whats going on NOW, instead of always having the focus on the wedding.
I'm hoping at the one year mark, she calms down. Thanks all for your responses.
edited to say: I wouldn't trade my mom for the world.
Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
Lisa...I think if my sister hadn't also gotten married 3 months after me...my mom would be like yours...but my situation is more like Michele...she is so relieved all the parties (e-parties, showers, weddings) are done and paid for

Re: my mother is STILL obsessed with my wedding...
Well Lisa, the next thing you have to look forward to is the constant 'when are you having a baby' phase. My mother and his mother stopped asking that after my miscarriage, but they've both started in again -- subtlely of course -- I guess they feel I've had enough time and it's 'safe' to start asking again. I just ignore them now.
