I have been looking for a couple of months now - the prices are so crazy. My husband sold his house last Oct. which we thougt was a good time to sell but... this past summer the increase in home was insane. I would look up when and what people had paid for their homes and what they are currently asking - I will give you an example - we looked at a home in RVC and they were asking 439 this couple only bought the house in 1999 for 260 (Now I don't think if she wanted to try and get around 3 something but what she was asking I would never give. (I wouldn't of bought the house for even 300 it needed a lot of work... but anyway I just wanted to vent. If we were to buy now isn't it a lose situation? Houses cannot be worth what they are asking - A home that was bought last year is now being priced a 100,000 more - I just can't see that next year the house would be worth anymore - I think they can only go down to a more realistic price? Anyway, I'm starting to think I am never going to find a house the we love and is a good price.

house hunting on LI - recent experience
My husband just told me that on some website you can find out how much people on a particular street paid for their houses. He found out that the couple that lives 2 houses away from us paid $100,000 LESS for their house 3 years ago than we paid for ours in June! We basically have the same house too!!(Both capes).

Here are a couple of websites for local real estates in the Patchogue area. They have pictures and descriptions of homes in the area. The info includes taxes so you can get an idea. Patchogue has a lot going for it, local parks and beaches, lots of municipal services, a local downtown area, many different houses of worship and good schools. Taxes are not too bad compared to many other areas of LI and housing prices are very reasonable. You can commute to Manhattan from either the Patchogue train station or Ronkonkoma (about 10 minutes away). Both Swan Realty www.swanproperties.com and Belzak & Bodkin realty, www.belbod.com have many local listings. Good luck to all of you in your searches.

Same all over.
I live in Queens and a 2 bedroom bungalow in the neighborhood went for 229 two years ago and now they want 379 to 419. I say want because that is too expensive for a 2 bedroom one bath regardless of the taxes.
