Wanted to share my guestplate photos. We picked it up this weekend and I was so happy because they got the signature off the building (what kind of an a$$ would do that?) Of course I want to use it to serve something for Christmas Dinner but my FH is totally against it...he thinks we should put it in a box in the basement for the rest of our lives! Hello?? The whole reason I got this plate instead of the other options is because its practical. Sheesh!
Anyway..here is the before:

The plate looks good; but, you had me cracking up about the person who signed over the building

Why not display it? Either on the wall or a shelf? I think it is a great piece to display.

Re: My sign in plate... (Before & After)
My house isnt stable enough to hang on a wall (dont ask) and I dont have shelving big enough to hold it. We plan on having a custom bookshelf built next year by a woodworker but until then the choices are a) use it for special occasions or b)store it in basement.

It looks great! I'd too be a little hesistant to use it, but I don't agree with keeping it in a basement either. maybe just use it on special occasions, but I'd make sure my DH didn't touch it! LOL

It turned out beautifully! I would put it in a curio or china cabinet.

I would use it for the holidays and other special occasions. I am one of those people who believes in using your good china and silver and glasses- not just putting them on a shelf. Everyday should be a special occassion.

Tracy: I had the plate done at a shop in Brooklyn called 'The Painted Pot'. You buy their wedding platter set for $90 which includes the big platter, one ceramic marker and an artist to paint your names and date. I added the building to the design for an extra few bucks.
You order the plate, pick it up and display it with a sign at your reception. (I had my day of coordinator make sure everyone signed so I dont know if I would have gotten nearly everyone without a little help) After the wedding you bring it back to them to fire twice.

I say use it. We are currently hanging our well wishing board in our living room. You pack a guestbook away in the basement, not a plate.

I think it's a great idea! We had a signing matte and framed the matte with a picture that is hanging on our wall! I think you should use it! For special occassions only. But if the DH really wants to save it - you will have your display cabinet in a year. But either way, it should not be stored in a basement for life!

Did you have a problem having the bridal party sign it. I was thinking that if I get it I would bring it to the rehersal dinner, for them to sign it thena couple of days later to cocktail hour? what do you think? I have a few months..

Re: My sign in plate... (Before & After)
I think bringing it to the RD is a great idea. I wanted to do the same thing but it was just not feasible since we walked to our RD and I didnt want to carry this big thing around.
Most of my bridal party did sign it and most of the wedding guests in general did sign it (or someone from their party did). If I had thought about it - I would have told me coordinator to make sure the entire party signed it but it didnt occur to me until after it was over.

Stef, this is a great idea, and I think it really came out beautiful. Definitely use it for the holidays, or any old day - what a nice 'living' memory of your wedding day!

I love the plate and would use it. I think it is so nice to use what you have instead of saving it for that special time!
