My sisters adopted cat...

I met him for the first time this week and she told me he has been sneezing a lot, wheezing, has a little eye discharge. He also meows A LOT. I dont know if its cause hes uncomfortable. Well, I just scared myself by looking up respiratory infection in felines and feline herpes came up with all of his symptoms. He has an appt for this Friday but now Im worried. Does anyone or has anyone had a cat with feline herpes???

Most cats that come from shelters have respiratory infection. Its spreads easy in shelters and from others cats. You just get anti botics and eye drops and he should be ok

Who knows what naughtiness he was participating in in the shelter! but the poor baby is a mess. Its gotten worse since I got here. Im taking him to the SPCA tomorrow for my sis cause he was feeling a little warm right now.

Cats can also get chlamydia!

I'm sure it's just a respiratory infection. Our cat had one when we adopted him from the shelter. A little medicine should make him all healthy in a few days. Tell your sister to put him in the bathroom with her when she takes a shower. The steamy air is good for their lungs and sinuses.

Do you want me to call my friend and ask her? She just became a vet.
Hope the kitty feels better.

OMG! If you could that would be great. I just dont know what to do. I googled his symptoms and it says if he is breathing with his mouth open he should be brought in. And right now hes sleeping wth his mouth open and his left nostril has a slight nosebleed. I called a 24 hour vet service but they want 119 just to walk in the door.

I have had cats all my life and I never knew that they could be so naughty.. Seriously, I would be worried too. Is there any way you could take the cat in sooner than Friday? Don't mean to scare or further upset you....I just don't like that he is sleeping with his mouth open...it doesn't sound right to me. Poor kitty.

Im about to take him right now. Couldnt wait any more. He was sneezing all night and sniffling and meowing like he's uncomfortable. Good thing is he's eating but Im still not chancing it. He definitely needs antibiotics. Ill update later. Thanks girls.

Re: My sisters adopted cat...

Lea I just sent you an FM with what my friend said. You need to bring in kitty for a physical, but it is propably and upper respiratory desease which causes the herpes that all cats have to flare up.

Glad to hear the kitty is doing well. I didn't see this til now, but it sounded like kennel cough. My pooch had it when we got him. It's quite common!
