Name change help

On my marriage license I took my husband's name. I have come to realize hyphenating is what I really want. Does anyone know how I go about changing this. I want to be Karen Middle Inital maiden-married name.

Do I just go back to where we got our marriage license?

Have you already changed your name with social security? If not, you might be able to just do it there without having to change your marriage certificate.

Thanks Bride04, I just posted on NWR to get more responses. I guess I should call Nassau County and just ask them, I can't be the only person to want to do something like this. I want to be certain I make all changes where I should.

Definitely call the town clerk's office, they're infinitely more helpful than the people at Social Security. Not sure if you'd have a problem with changing it at SS, but I know the DMV was very strict.

You can make your name anything you want with Social Security. If you havne' already changed it with them, you should have no problem. I would go to SS before changing driver's license.

Thanks Ladies, I haven't changed anything at SS or MV, only some credit cards and LIPA & Keyspan. I'm going to check w/the Town Clerk's office just to be on the safe side if I have to change my marriage license too.

I answered your post on NWR. You don't have to change anything on your marriage license. Just use your hyphenated name.
