Name change- its OFFICIAL!!

I just got back from changing my name at social security

(sorry kind of long) Now, if anyones interested..here was the annoying part. Since I work 2 blocks away from the SS office downtown, I figured to go there on my lunch break & take care of the name change. Well as soon as I get there, they tell me I have to go to the Bklyn office (DH & I live in BK). Since I refused to accept the fact that I was going to have to take a day off for this, I decided to wait since there were only a few people ahead of me. When I get to the window, the lady tells me the same thing so I asked, is this just because of my mailing address? and she said yes. So I told her, how about if I change the mailing address to my mom's (in LI). She said that would be fine & then she could process it. Well, works for me. So, I did it!!

I still don't get the reasoning, but beware. I was told that anyone who lives in Brooklyn or Queens must go to their respective SS offices. Thought I would let you know, since I had no idea!
