name change process

do you get your new ss card first or go to the motor vehicle first?

I am also wondering if this will effect my voter registration.

Re: name change process

Go to SS first, DMV now requires your new SS card to change your name, I just went through it. You can notify voter registration services when you change your name with the DMV.

Re: name change process

Wow, the DMV rules must have changed very recently.

I was married in July and started changing my name when we got back from the HM in early August. The first thing I changed was my Driver's License (well before I changed my SS card).

All I brought with me was my marriage license with me and my old driver's license, and they told me that was enough. The only other things I had in my new name was a couple of credit cards that I was able to change really quickly before I left for the HM

Re: name change process

I did my SS 1st, then DMV 2nd.... but I didn't need the SS for the license because I used my drivers license as the total 6pts.

Re: name change process

I have not done SS either. I am not changing the registration on my car... I was told I am still considered my maiden name also... I was born with that name. If there is a problem to just show my brith certificate and marriage license. I do not plan on selling my cars anytime soon.
