name change question

ok, so i've only been married a week, so i don't have the official marriage certificate yet, but i do have a question before diving into this whole name change thing.

originally i was going to hyphenate my name so that's what i put on the marriage license. now i'm thinking i just want to take his. is that going to be a problem? thanks for any help in advance!

Re: name change question

it shouldn't be a problem. I put his name on the marriage license but I'm not changing it; for now i'm keeping my own name. the marriage license isn't the legal change; it's changing all the other stuff like SS # etc. you might need your marriage license to do it so I would just call and ask them.

actually we were told what you put on the marriage license was set in stone, that I had to be very sure its what I wanted. call your town hall where you got your license from they will know best

that's what i was told as well...that once that decision was made - that's it. they even told me to take a minute and think about it...but i already knew what i wanted...

We were told that its not legaly changed if you just write it on the marriage license. Even though i put his name on the marriage certificate, i haven't changed anything else yet. I might wait a little while, its hard for me to let go!

hmm... i guess i'll call town hall then... they didn't say anything about it being set in stone or permanent or anything like that... thanks for the help (and if anyone else has insight feel free to offer input!).
