Name Change Question..

Name Change Question..

Just a quick one...I'm going on Thursday to change my name on my Social Security Card..I Should do that first right?

Also, where did you guys go for that? My friend said you HAVE to go to the one in Jamaica..I'd really rather avoid that..can I go to any office?

I looked it up, but didn't find any info on whether I have to go to Jamaica..

if you live in queens then yeah. I went to the one in the city since i happened to be in the city that day and they sent me away. They told me the ONLY one i can go to is the one in queens

Hey Diana! Not sure where you live, but if you look up Social Security Office on Yahoo! or something and get to their website, you can punch in your zip code and get the closest office. I went to the one in Patchogue. HTH!

trust me i went through this already. you have to go to the one closest to where you live. you can look it up online. i tried going to the one in the city only to be told i have to go to Jamaica. they open at 7:00 AM. i was there at about 6:45 AM & the 3rd person on line. i was done in about 10 minutes. pays to go early when i was leaving the line was huge.

really? thats odd - my friend went to one in bellmore (or merrick i cant remember) and i went to the one in jamaica just b/c i used to work a block away & the guy was like 'you know you could have gone to one by your house'

why do you have to go to that one?

uuughhh i was hoping that we could go to the one in Rego Park it is so close to my job. There is NO PARKING around the Jamaica one and it is always packed

Well I am in CT now so I'm not sure which office is best in NY but yes go to Social Security first then to DMV then call everyone who mails you anything every! Banks, Credit Cards, etc, etc.
It is a lot of work it took me a whole year to finally get up and just do it!
