name change... what if I don't change my name now?

name change... what if I don't change my name now?

I have a random question about the whole name change process...... When DH & I applied for our marriage license before the wedding, on the application it asks for your current name and your new surname. So I put DH's last name under my new surname...... I wasn't entirely too sure if I was going to change my name, but while I was filling it out at the clerk's office, they told me if I put my maiden name under the new surname section, if I did later on decide to take DH's last name I'd have to have a civil ceremony all over again to change it... that just seemed like too much trouble at the time, so I just put his last name.....

But, now that we're married, what happens if I don't change my name to what I put on the marriage license application? What if I want to keep my maiden name? Do I just do nothing? Or do I have to get the marriage license changed? I'm not sure... and I had asked the clerk who was processing the application and she kinda just brushed me off and said 'oh don't worry' but didn't really explain much..... I don't even know if she was paying attention to my question... If I don't change it now am I nameless?? lol DH keeps teasing me that I'm nameless now if I don't change it (which is probably just his way of getting me to change my last name since he's old fashioned)..... I will probably change it to his last name anyway (evenutally when I get around to it lol) but what happens if I decide to keep my own?

Sorry if this is long winded..... I hope it even makes sense lol I'm not sure how to explain myself....

I have heard of lots of people on here saying that they don't change it for months or even a year, and I think they were fine - you just use your name! Just because it's on the marriage cert like that doesn't mean you lost your maiden name. Your social security card is still in YOUR name so it should be fine.
