Name Qstion

Ok here it goes- when I got married I am now hyphenating my last names - can I still be using just DH's last name?

I hate to try to correct people when they just call me Mrs. ____________ instead of Mrs. ______- ________ I feel guilty if I correct them so I don't.

I hope I made some sense.

DH is John Doe

You want to be called Mrs. Smith-Doe?

And feel bad when people call you 'Mrs. Doe' or Mrs Smith?

ok, I think I understand what you are saying, people call you Mrs. New Last name and its not your last name but you dont correct them and tell them its Mrs. New Last name + Maiden name?

Correct?

You can still be called Mrs. New last name....I would correct them so there is no surprise

you now what I'm fed-up with?

Prior to marriage, I was dr. smith. when we married, I didn't change my name. (DH= mr. jones)

both families mail me birthday cards with Mrs. Jones..... they all know I didn't change my name.....

Worse still, I genuinely suspect when DH gets his doctorate in a year or so, they'll all be excited and start writing letters to Dr. and Mrs. Jones, rather than Dr. jones and dr. smith, or even drs. jones.

If I am right in my suspicion, there will be a nuclear meltdown in port jeff sometime next year....

That is kind of the situation that I am in and I'm just wanting folks to get it right now- I don't mind getting mail that says Mr. & Mrs John Doe but I feel like a fake knowing I am Mrs. Jane Smith-Doe... Also I don't want to legally use Mrs. Jane Doe knowing that I can possibly get in trouble for that.
