I can give you info on queens. The houses in the good parts of queens are pretty pricey and not sure what price range youre looking in.

Astoria, i searched alot on this and the cheapest house i found was $600k and needed alot of work. I found info on many sites and the average home in astoria is $800-900k and not like theyre THAT big either

Whitestone is also a great neighborhood and just as pricey, same with bayside. Forest hills same thing. I did find one home that was selling for $500k in kew gardens and that actually sold the first week bc of how inexpensive it was compared to other homes in the area, and its crazy but when i saw it the first thing i thought was 'there has to be something wrong with this house'

Apartments in the above mentioned areas are alot more affordable obviously and lots of them.

you can find more affordable homes around the maspeth, middle village area.

I have to say that when i was searching i saw alot of homes in new hyde park at a reasonable price, it kept coming up in my search.

check out MLSLI.com, it will give you a good idea of price ranges

DH and i just bought in bellerose, queens and love it here. i am originally from bayside but we really couldnt afford a decent house there. bellerose is great bc its about five minutes from my parents and my job (both in bayside), its still queens, school district is 26 which is a good one and our house is everything we wanted. come to bellerose and have a look!!

My sister and my uncle live in Forest Hills Queens and I love it there!
My Grandma lives in Great Neck-close to Queens, easy commute to the city, safe and fun!
My Husband loves Bayside Queens and was thinking about buying there.

These are really the only areas I'm really familiar with! Other then that, I'm from suffolk County so I'm not too familiar with the Nassau/Queens Area. Therefore, I'm not much help!

either or. i grew up on li and have been in brooklyn for the last 7 years. ideally we would love brooklyn, but it's expensive and the selection in our price range is small. so we're looking for something close to the city in a good school district. part of my wants a suburban feel for our kids, but part of me really love the city feel. i guess it just has to be a nice place, first and foremost.

i'm sure that was no help.
