Neck pain, need advice...

Neck pain, need advice...

Christmas Day I decided to walk around the house with the new purse Dh bought me. And while it was on my shoulder, I stretched my arms up to stretch out my back and I think I pulled something. Maybe I shouldnt have stretched with a bag on but I cant move my neck to the left (a la Zoolander). If I try it sends shooting pains out to my neck and below my shoulder area near my spine. Has anyone ever experienced this? Do you think getting a deep tissue massage would help or hurt?

Moist heat should help out. Take a nice hot shower or use a heating pad/pack of some kind. You can also do some gentle stretching like the 'ear to shoulder' stretch and some gentle massage to the area. Hope you feel better soon!

that happened to me a little over a month ago, it was the worse. Yeah go to CVS or a drugstore and get one those patches, either icy hot or they have so many kinds now. I also had celebrex from the time i hurt my foot so i took that. Take aleve maybe too that might help. Also take a hot shower and let the water run on your neck for a long time. Oh even the little heating blanket thingy would help

Thanks girls. Ive tried stretching my ear to my shoulder but thats the worst! I can maybe move it an inch or so. Im going to try those patches for sure and maybe some tiger balm or something.

you should see a chiropractor.....
if you really 'pulled something' you need professional treatment....
things like electric stim, moist heat, adjustments, traction, etc..... will really help it, it maybe just a spain/strain or it could also be a disc herniation or bulge....

FM me where you live and I can recommend a chiropractor in your area if you like

feel better

Maybe I should start gobbin on my knees rather than in a headstand. You think thats whats causing the strain on my neck?

I'd love to hear what your chiropractor would say when you walk in and tell him,

'Gee Doc, I don't know what is wrong. I've got this excruciating pain in my neck and now I can't work.'

'Well Lea (with no H), what is it that you do?'

'I gob the knob daily while standing on my head'

Re: Neck pain, need advice...

okay, you're talking to the neck pain QUEEN (spinal surgery queen as well)...

MOIST, warm heat - MOIST is VERY VERY important if the problem is muscular. If you use a regular heating pad or those pain patch thingies - you are drying out the muscle - and likely causing more pain.

Aleve is the best thing to take - it's Naproxen Sodium...naproxen is a muscle relaxer.

Going for a massage could be a mistake or a good thing. There are certain types of 'injuries' that massage makes worse and certain types it can only help... Honestly - if you can, call your doc if you are still in pain on Monday, explain what you did and ask their opinion on massage or no massage. The ones that massage can HURT - can feel like you are being KILLED if you get one (i've had those before)...

i hope you feel better hon!
