My step sister's child is having a bat mitzvah on the west coast. DH and I have ZERO vacation time left, so we would need to fly out Friday night, and return on Sunday (no making a fun trip out of it) Airfare is a FORTUNE. Would it be really bad if only I went.....alone without DH? It is more of an obligation then a desire to go. It is not a wedding, but a bar mitzvah Would you find that strange? Please be honest.

Re: NEED ADVICE
I wouldn't find that strange.... I REALLY wanted to go to my friend's wedding on the east coast and I contemplated going without DH! (but it ended up being too expensive even with just me going)

Re: NEED ADVICE
one more thing that I have to add.....they came to my wedding with their 4 children. That is a lot of plane tix that they bought to come to my wedding. That is a lot of plane tix.!!!!!!!!
On the other hand, that was a wedding. THis is a BAR MITZVAH.
THey have an older child whose bar mitzvah we attended 2 years ago....we flew down there....but I don't remember it being so incredibly expensive. The tix are over $1200 for the 2 of us.

Re: NEED ADVICE
I'm sure she'll be a little hurt but I hope she understands if you explain it to her. Just make sure you go. DH is not a requirement but I think that you are.

Re: NEED ADVICE
Don't find it strange one bit. I just had a similar situation. My little sister has been dating her marine bf for 6 months when they decided to get engaged and then quickly married b4 he deployed to Iraq. We were back from our honeymoon a week when we heard the news (DH had no time left from work). So I flew to NC by myself for their improptu Wed afternoon wedding on the beach.

Re: NEED ADVICE
I think it is fine to go by yourself. I went to a two weddings without DH (FH at the time) because of commitments he had at school.
