So, at the back of our house, where our yard and all our neighbors yards meet, there is a utility pole. The pole looks crooked and there are wires hanging down from it, including a gray box, all on the ground. We had LIPA come out, who told us the wires aren't electric wires, and to call our phone company. WE use Optimum for our phone, cable and Internet, so I called them. DH just called me that the kid was there and said that its not their wires, either, and to call Verizon. I am sick and tired of this. Who else can I call? This really isnt even our responsibility! DH is all pissed off and says he doesn't want to deal w/ it at all and if I want it taken care of, I have to do it. Should I call the town of Brookhaven? We live in Centereach... HELP!

yea I would call the town & see if they can either take them down or figure out whose they are to get them to do it.

Verizon is coming out tomorrow. DH says that Verizon has been out before, like years ago, and they swear its not their wire, either. The problem is that we now got billed from Cablevision for today's visit, and will prob get billed from Verizon tomorrow. It's really not our responsibility so we don't feel we should have to pay anything!! I am calling the town now, anyway, to see what they say.

that kinda suckss that you guys seem to be the only ones doing anything about it. Too bad your neighbors aren't offering to split the price, since you said it's kind of on ALL of your properties. Whatever, I guess. Not much you can do about that. I hope you guys are able to figure it out tho.

I know but the prob is that when I was scheduling the appt the guy warned me that we'd be billed if it turned out that it wasn't THEIR issue, which supposedly it's not. And they are coming out again tomorrow WITH Verizon, so they're prob gonna bill us a 2nd time, too!

Oh, the town was SO not helpful! They basically said the town isn't responsible for down wires. She gave me the # of the Highway Dept b/c the down wires are on a piece of land that really doesnt belong to us, or even any of our neighbors. I think its called an 'easement' when its literally just there for utility use.
So, I called the Highway Dept and learned a few new things. She couldnt REALLY help me, but she did tell me that almost all the utility poles on LI are either LIPA's or Verizon's. She said if LIPA already said it wasnt theirs, then when Verizon comes tomorrow, it SHOULD be theirs. She said even if they say the WIRE isnt theirs, if the POLE is, they should be able to tell us whose wire it is and get it taken care of. Sounds much easier than it probably will be!

oh boy, sounds like you are getting such a run around. I hope that when Verizon comes they can give you some sort of answer! So annoying.
