Need cocktail hour advice from the marrieds!

For 500 extra my hall will add a half an hour on to the cocktail hour and the reception will still be four hours. Is the extra half hour really noticable? Since we will be at the cocktail hour will it help to make the day less of a blur?

Re: Need cocktail hour advice from the marrieds!

We added an extra hour on our day, but added it to the reception and we did notice the extra time. We felt it gave us time to really say hello to everyone but still enjoy dancing. And we actually got to eat. It also helped us space out the time between courses -- especially dinner and desert.

I agree. I could see it if you were going to cut it close after taking pictures and might miss it. Or if you have a ton of guests, in which case it you might need extra time to say hi to all of them.

$500 is more than a reasonable amount for that...but its not really necessary unless you have a particular reason why you want to extend it.

Re: Need cocktail hour advice from the marrieds!

I don't think it makes a real different if you add a 1/2 hour to the cocktail hour.

Its great for the guests - b/c they will get to chow down on the food - but the real party starts at the reception hour with the music and food.

We had the extra 1/2 hr too. i don't think that it made that much of a difference. no body mentioned it & we still missed our cocktail hr.

If you are going to add a 1/2 hour anywhere....I would add it to the reception to allow more time for partying!

Re: Need cocktail hour advice from the marrieds!

We got married at the hall so everything happened right on top of eachother. I wish I had added the 1/2 hour to the cocktail hour so that we could have had more time for pictures. -- But if you're not in that situation, I don't think that it's necessary.

Re: Need cocktail hour advice from the marrieds!

Ok...I don't think it is necessary, but for only $500 it is worth it. We thought about doing it, but when we calculated how much extra it would be it was not worth it. It would have been like $4000 for the half hour because we would had to extend the cocktail hour music too.
