need HEALTHY recipes please!

Me & Dh have finally decided that enough is enough! lol. We're getting on strict diets together starting NOW. Both of us have basically gone up a size since the wedding and that just will not due with Summer and bathing suit season right around the corner. lol. I think the main problem for us is not necessarily the need to work out, but rather what we are EATING. I only began gaining weight once we started having these huge yummy dinners together every night But i'd rather not just have plain old grilled chicken every night either. So anybody have any healthy recipes with lotsa protein in it? I'm not really looking for vegetable dishes. We both HATE our veggies, so simple salads & V8 drinks I think will be it for us.

(I'm just so happy that he's doing it with me. I've been working on losing the weight on my own, but it's been rough trying to eat healthy when i'm still making him delicious food for lunch and dinner. I haven't been able to lose weight like that - just maintain. So I'm psyched!!)

Well whatever you were cooking before, cut back in your portions. Also instead of frying meats, grill them. Use 2% cheeses in recipes and use light versions.

thanks - that IS helpful. We were just eating lots of starchy food before - like cheese stuffed shells, Fettuccine Alfredo, Mozzarella Chicken w/ Garlic Pasta. We just really need to cut back on those carbs and try to eat more vegetables (it'll be a challenge - sometimes he's such a kid when it comes to that. haha)

you can do chicken so many ways (with different seasonings or marinades) and then grill them

hamburgers (no bun)

tacos (whole wheat wrap)

i know you said you hate veggies, but i found some packages in the frozen section already seasoned. All you have to do is microwave it. I hate veggies too but if they are full of seasoning i can deal

Def make smaller portions or if you make alot save some for lunch the next day

Use whole wheat pasta

Re: need HEALTHY recipes please!

i have some recipes at home that I will post later on but in the meantime- some of my tricks

- when I make meatloaf, I use the 91% fat free chop meat and quick cooking oats instead of breadcrumbs- dh has yet to notice

-worst time for me is during cooking- so before I cook, I cut up veggies & have that with 1 tablespoon of light sour cream

-mashed cauliflower instead of potatoes

- sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes

-I serve at least 2-3 veggies with dinner and fill about 2/3 of the plate with them and leave only a little room for meat and a starch

-whole grains- pasta & bread, brown rice- more filling and so much healthier

You can still eat that stuff so you don't feel deprived. Just make it grilled chicken with lowfat mozzarella. For pastas you'll have to stay away from the heavy cream sauces, but you can still enjoy pasta by switching to whole grain/whole wheat. It's hard to make such a drastic change so if you can switch up the ways you prepare stuff, you'll see a difference in your waistline for sure and you won't feel so deprived.

You should also make a small side salad to eat with every meal. Nothing huge, but it's a way to get those veggies in. Italians always eat their salad last and it's what I've always done. When you have a yummy dressing you look forward to it so you want to make sure there's room for it
