i've posted this on the brides website, but decided to ask for help here too since you guys already have picutres from your wedding day..
i have 6 BM and i'm trying to decide whether it would make my pictures look nicer if i asked all the girls to have their hair done a certain way...for example, all should have updos or all should leave their hair down...of course, i wouldnt tell them to get a specific updo, just an updo that they liked and felt comfortable with, as long as all the hair was up...
OR should i just let each girl do whatever she likes?
what's your experience with this? thanks!

I really don't think it's a matter of how it looks versus personal preference. I, personally, wasn't going to make my girls do and pay for updo's if that wasn't them - instead, I told them to wear their hair however they wanted and I think it looked great. Obviously, the people in your wedding party are the closest to you and will want to look their best on that day! Good Luck!

my girls did their hair any way they wanted - some up, some down. They also wore different dresses (same color) and it all looked great.
I'm not a big fan of dictating a look to bridemaids. They still have to be themselves.

Ditto to Cira and LisaT. Think about it... if you were asked to wear a hairtyle that you felt wasn't flattering on you, would you feel comfortable and enjoy the wedding? I wouldn't.

Look at the bridal party pictures on this board to get an idea. I agree with the other ladies that one hairstyle is not necessary.

Sorry but I have to go against the crowd here I think it looks so much better if the girls all have their hair in somewhat of a similar style. I asked my girls to all have their hair up in some way- and except for the one with very short hair, they all did and they looked great. Here is a pic I already posted on the bridal party photo side just to give you an idea.
Jeanna, I agree...your BP and your photo is beautiful. It's nice that your BP didn't mind wearing their hair up for your wedding.
Personally, I just don't like the idea of surpressing everyone's individuality just for the wedding day. You don't ask friends and relatives to be BMs just so they can be clones of one another. I like the look of everyone doing something a little bit different. Just my style...

I agree with everyone else -- I let my girls wear their hair whatever way they felt comfortable with! I knew my cousin and my MOH do not like to wear their hair up, which they would have done if I wanted them to, but I wanted them to be comfortable. Your pictures will come out great no matter how they all decide to wear their hair!

I have to vote for letting everyone wear their hair the way they feel most comfortable. When my aunt got married she dictated, our hair nail polish color, pantyhose, (yes she bought the hose and polish) etc..surprised she didn't dictate our underwear as well

Michelle I am on the floor I did tell my bridesmaids to all get french manicures on their toes and fingenails
In regards to hair, my thing with bridesmaids is if all your girls have similar looks yes you can do things like that. However when your girls have different looks please don't do that. Like me I do not look good in updoes and I would hate for anyone to tell me to wear my hair in one. Also what I think brides tend to forget is that all th weddings I have been to you can always spot the girl that is uncomfortable in her dress or whatever and when planning my wedding that was big thing I did not want. I received sooo many compliments on how my bridal party was so pretty. I had girl from size 2 to 20 so you know....

Have to agree with giving the girls the option. I was a BM where the bride wanted our hair up and my hair was just barely long enough for them to do something with a zillion pins and tons of spray, but it did not look elegant in my eyes - just made my face look fat! Fortunately, she paid for the salon visit If you're going to dictate a specific hair style then it's a nice gesture to pick up the cost.

I like it when they are all dressed the same but different hairstyles, not everyone looks good with an updo, and vise versa. I like it better when the girls dont look EXACTLY the same, but again JMO
