Its my sister in law’s birthday today…we get along fine, were not the best of friends, but there is a level of distance, she just has a different personality than mine, which I feel clashes with mine. Anyways so its her birthday today…shes never gotten me anything for my birthday, which is fine I guess, sometimes she doesn’t even say “happy birthday” because she may “forget” or w/e…I’m going to see her today because we were supposed to have dinner with the inlaws (not a birthday party or anything) and shes going to be there. Im wondering if I should just say happy birthday and leave it at that also, or get her a small gift? I don’t think im being cheap or inconsiderate, but im just a little puzzled because in the past I have gotten her very nice gifts (tiffanys, new colognes etc)…but I guess I just feel like im sick of always making an effort, and people always forget when my day comes along…like my anniversary, bday or other holidays. I just need some advice on what would you do in a situation like this.
Thanks

Re: need some advice
are you the type to normally wish someone a happy birthday, and/or give a gift?
If so, I say CONTINUE to be that person.
Don't stoop to her level...

Re: need some advice
I would give a simple card and a gift card.....
that would be my way of being nice but only showing minimal interest and enthusiasm....

Buy her a card and maybe cookies or flowers.
shes allergic to flowers, and on too much of a diet to eat cookies

Re: need some advice
i agree about giving a card or something small to show you care or that you remembered. youre doing something nice regardless of what she does or what you get back.

Re: need some advice
I can understand where you are coming from. I don't think it's bad if you only get her a card. I have friends who I exchange gifts with and friends I don't.....Not saying that you give a gift cause you want a gift in return, but it stinks to be the only one making an effort there...I personally wouldn't give a gift cause I am stubborn like that..lol...but giving a gift makes you happy then go for it, if it's going to make you angry if she doesn't do it in return yet again then I'd let it go....

Re: need some advice
My friends and I all exchange cards for birthdays and we usually include a bunch of scratch offs... that's our 'thing'. I love it! It's cheap, fun, and there's a possibility of winning some money!
