I just graduated with my masters and am applying to various teaching jobs. One of the things that everyone (teachers, professors, Hofstra admin, etc.) says is important is your online profile. Well I deleted my myspace account and made my facebook superprivate. However, my name happens to the be the same name as a rather famous Latino pornstar, so when you google my name you get porn sites. Also, when I googled my name with my middle initial, a public profile comes up for me with all of my correct info except the possible links attached are porn links. Maybe I am just being paranoid, but do you think this is really going to be an issue at all? I wouldn't think this would be a big deal, except the jobs that I am looking for are teaching jobs!

It happens! There are billions of people in the world. More often than not you are bound to share a name with someone else! (I never did until I got married.) I am sure your potential employers are aware of that and are also aware that you are not the same person. I would not stress about it at all.

honestly, i wouldn't stress about it at all. what people mean when they say that is that YOU shouldn't be irresponsible and have inappropriate interactions online - which is simply code for 'don't eventually embarrass us on News12.' so as long as you aren't the porn star (which you aren't) :o) then you don't have to worry at all. no one's going to google you and think otherwise :o) don't sweat it! you'll be fine :o)

I have the same problem... I am still using my maiden name because of connections my family has in education and DH is from NJ so his name does nothing to help me, but Michelle Angelo is also a famous porn star known for her TREMENDOUS boobs. There is nothing you can do about it and you hope those people are smart enough to realize other people can have your name.
However in one interview they warned me that they would be looking up my online profile, so I warned them about her.
Actually I love it, because of her it takes about 30 pages on google before you even find mention of me. Its nearly impossible to find me at all.
