I'm getting really sick of my hair. It's pretty think and curly (in about 1 - 1 1/2 inch ringlets) and I can't stand the frizz that accompanies it anymore. I have no idea how to fix this problem. I use smoothing shampoo and conditioner (which I let sit in for awhile and don't rinse out all of because otherwise my hair gets so dry and brittle), I have tried a lot of different hair products and no one product ever seems to work more than 50% of the time. I'm just so freaking frustrated. I could feel totally great and look awesome, but if I'm not liking my hair, my whole day is shot.
Soo....I can't decide if I want to do a chemical relaxer to make my hair into loose curls instead and hopefully control some of this frizz, or cut it shorter (like a 40s bob or something).
Anyone have any pictures or advice on what to do?

Re: Need some hair help
Have you thought about the Brazilian Keratin Hair Treatment. It actually reduces the frizz but unlike the japanese it doesnt straighten the hair permanently. It also helps to reduce the curls and makes it easier to blow dry straight.

My cousin is a hair dresser, so I figured when the time comes I'd tell her what I wanted and do whatever she told me. But that actually sounds perfect for what I want.
And this is a video of them actually doing it: http://www.vimeo.com/4267217
I have done it about 3 times already and it really helps.

Thanks! Your hair is awesome btw. I guess you know exactly what I'm suffering through then! This is my one downside to being half Puerto Rican.

I am half colombian and half russian. I wish I had the thickness but the curls and frizz kills me.

That is so funny! I am half Puerto Rican half Russian! Both of my parents have thick hair (although my mom who is the Russian is the only one with thick hair in her whole family) and my dad has really curly hair- like Afro curly. I keep wishing it was the 80s, then my hair could be frizzy and it would actually be COOL.

Re: Need some hair help
my salon does a chemical straightening that is similar to the japanese straighening... my friend does it all the time, and it is amazing!! i have curly hair but my hair is soo thin that if i got it done i would have noooo body at all! but my friends hair is awesome! they only thing is they say you cant color your hair if you get it done.

I get the Keratin Treatment every 4 months. My hair is still curly if I want it to be but without the frizzzzzzz and if I want to straighten it I can in about 1/2 the time
Highly recommend it!!!!

My best friend does that and it's AMAZING! She has super tight curley hair, and has done all sorts of straightening procedures. The brazilian is the best by far.

I agree with everyone about going for the brazilian over the japanese. I've been considering it for awhile. I'm just scared of losing all my curl and body but from everyone has said here it sounds like all you lose is the frizz and hour long blow outs so I'm game!
PS- I'm a half Puerto Rican girl too!

Re: Need some hair help
your lucky to have curly hair, girls kill for it, don't get rid of it
I have another suggestion:
Ouidad... go there and get a hair cut, or at very least buy their products. I have crazy curly hair that would always drives me nuts. I started going to Ouidad over two years ago. Its more money for a cut but I only go 3-4 times a year. In between I try to use the deep treatment conditioner every 3-4 weeks which takes the frizz away again. I use Ouidad's Climate Control to do my hair every day and I use their conditioner to get through the knots.
Ouidad believes that girls with curly hair shouldn't cut it the same way as girls with straight hair. She developed a method of slicing curly hair. While they were cutting my hair I watched my hair get beautiful bouncy culrs.

So how much money is all of this? And how long does it last? Does it eventually go away, or do you need to get so many treatments because your hair grows out and you need to retreat it?
Meh, I really don't mind the curlyness, it's the frizz that kills me. And I try so hard to moisturize it, but whether it's dry or humid it is always a f*ck*ng mess. I used to have stick straight hair when I was a kid, and I actually liked it that way. It was the worst day of my life when I woke up to curly hair.

The place I go to charges $80 for the treatment and you go about every 3-4 months. It eventually goes away when you wash your hair since it just coats the shaft of the hair.

Wow, that is not bad at all. I can totally afford that! The place I go to get my hair cut does them, and my hair cut is only $45 (which is the biggest deal EVER for how thick this mop is), so this makes me very excited. I think I'll talk to my guy about it the next time I make an appointment.
