Hi ladies,
Can some of you pls make suggestions about where you took your dresses to be cleaned and/or preserved? My wedding was almost 3 mos. ago, and I haven't done anything yet. Also, we do not live on LI, but I can have my parents take it for me.
Any help would be great!
Thanx!

Need Suggestions - What to do with Dress?
The tuxedo place we used for our wedding offered a free cleaning and preserving. I had dropped it off the day after the wedding and my husband picked it up today (about 2 mos later). We used VIP tuxedo in Massapequa. Maybe you can call and see what they charge? Hope everything works out!

Thanks...any other options for dress cleaning?
thanks for the suggestion. I am going to have my Mom look into it. Maybe even call our tux place and see if they offer the same service. Any other ideas?

I went to a high end dry cleaners in my area. The owner is a friend of a friend, so that's no help to you.(sorry). But try calling a local bridal shop and ask for some recommendations.
My dress sat around for months before I took it to the dry cleaners, they cleaned it and preserved it.
Just remember to not put your dress in plastic for a long time, it'll damage the fabric, and also once it's in a box, make sure you refold every six months to one year - not along the same seams as the original fold to keep the creases from staining and becoming 'permanent'.

HIGH END DRY CLEANERS
is what I will do. Have found one place in
Long Beach that seems like they do a really
nice job. they also 'showcase' the dress. they clean it,
then take it and SEAL it in a box that has a window
they aslo enclosed your wedding invitation, your shoes, headpiece
or whatever else you would like.
Kinda makes me wonder aout the post
above from KGB that recommended refolding
your dress every so often...

HIGH END DRY CLEANERS
That's a trick I learnerd from a costume designer years ago. She had a lot of vintage clothing and she would refold to prevent the creases from becoming permanent.
I asked the dry cleaners when I picked up my gown and he said I should do it.

I also have heard that you should remove the dress and re-fold it and check for any bugs or other problems at least once a year. Its not a bad idea to wash your hands well first to remove oils and possible consider wearing cotton gloves if you really want to be cautious.
