Need to vent!

Need to vent!

My friend is getting married and I am her maid of honor. She told me I could wear any dress I want as long as it was royal blue. So ... I found a dress that I love and is royal blue. So I emailed her the picture so she could see it. She sends me a reply that the dress is not what she had in mind and to forget about buying it. ***!!! I love the dress because I could wear it again for any other occasion. The dress she wants me to wear is ugly and I am not spending $200 on a dress I don't like...especially when she said I could wear any dress I wanted. I told her either I wear the dress or I go naked!!!

AM I being unreasonable?

Well, it is her day but in your defense she shouldnt have told you you could wear whatever you want. That was silly on her part.

It is annoying that she told you that you could wear whatever you want and then changed her mind, but I would probably defer to her if it really means that much to her.

The dress she picked for her bridesmaid is very similar to the one I like but, different material. The one I like fits much better.

JMO, but you had your day, your way and now its her turn. I'd wear what she prefers or look for a different dress you can both agree on.

Why not post pics of both dresses - DON'T say which is which - and see which one everyone prefers?

truthfully I agree with Yesi, I can understand you being upset b/c she did say that you can wear whatever you want as long as it was that color....BUT we were all brides and have all changed our minds. I think you are being a bit unreasonable-this is her wedding and it should be what she wants it to be just as yours was what you wanted.

When I got married I let them wear what they wanted. I am ok looking for another dress but, I think that after she got me all excited that I could choose my own dress, and then take it back is insane. Just because the dress is one inch shorter than the lenght she wanted ...

I am just going to take her shopping with me so we can decide on a dress together.

If she said you can wear whatever you want, then she should stick to that when you show her the dress you picked out. Not sure why she doesn't like the one you picked out, but props to you for agreeing to go shopping with her to pick out a dress. Ultimately, if she's not paying for your dress then she can't force you to buy something. You should of course, try your best to find something that she likes since it's her wedding...but you can't be forced to pay 200 for a dress you're never going to wear again. I purchased my girl's dresses since I new they'd probably never wear them again.
Hope it all works out for you!!

I have to agree with Peggy and Yesi here. Its her day, her way, no matter how wacky that way may be. She has a right to change her mind because her vision might have changed. Mine changes a dozen times during planning, It happens as you see everythign coming together. Just because YOU let her choose her own dress doesn't mean she has to. You're being unfair on that point.

She might be unreasonable but she is also likely stressed and as her MOH you're supposed to make that stress go away, not add to it. If she wants you to wear a burlap bag you should and wear it with a smile. You're her wingman and she needs you to back her up.

Im not saying you are totally wrong-but YOU wanted your girls to have a choice on what to wear-my girls wore and bought what I picked out and so did alot of other girls on here-Im just saying she has the right to say yay or nay if she changes her mind.

At least you are compromising and going shopping with her. Hopefully you find something you both can agree on

The thing about 'bridezillas' is we all know they exist, but no one thinks they are THAT bride.

I use the analogy of the bad driver -- there are SO MANY OUT THERE, but no one ever thinks they're one of 'em.

So basically she's telling you: 'You can wear whatever you want!!!! As long as I approve!!!!'

A little confusing but I'd cut her some slack, and for $200 its ok, your friendship's more important.
