Re: Need your tips on doing my seating...

Well I know I had close family and friends to the front. I had my side of the family on the side that I sat (we had a sweetheart table) and his side of the table on the side he sat.

Other than that I always made sure each person at a table knew at least one person at the table.

I hope that helped

I started by putting the obvious people together. Like I knew I wanted all my bm's and their dates together and all of the gm's and their dates together at a separate table. I knew I wanted Luke's immediate family together, and so on.

When there were small handfuls of people left, I grouped those in no less than groups of 4. So if I had 4 friends and an unrelated 6 friends, I put them together. I wanted to make sure everyone knew at least one other couple at their table.

Then I tried to put the 'dancers' at the edge of the dancefloor while the people I thought would be less likely to dance in the corners.

I did the people I invited and I let Roger do the people he invited, b.c he knows them best and who would be more comfortable. We split the room in two and he took 1/2 and I took 1/2 it worked out great.

I did my side. Nick's mom did her side and his G'ma did his dads side. There were only a few 'stragglers' that we would up just grouping with at least another couple they knew and then who had similar tastes. We aslo made sure we kept the older family members away from hte dj.

I pretty much did it all myself and then let DH take a look at it and then we both ran it by our parents.

I drew out the room floor plan on a big piece of cardboard and then used post-its for the people - so I can easily move them from table to table. Then I put it all into my address spreadsheet so it could be easiy sorted and given to the hall.

I just started grouping people I thought should sit with each other...

there was one slight problem...and a phonecall to my mom solved it...when we switched a few people around...it went amazingly easy for me...

my hall suggested that our friends sit on opposite sides of us...and that our family (ie parents) sit across the dance floor...then they have a better 'view' of us

maybe your hall can tell you what most people do..

mine wasn't as hard as I thought - like Stef I first put the obvious ppl together, and then all of our college friends by the bar , older relatives farthest away from the music, and closest family at the tables next to us.
Once I had groups of ppl together I drew out a floor plan and just started plugging the groups into the plan. It takes some patience but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be!

I placed people with people they knew. I mixed his family and mine together, but on different tables.

Mine worked out very well for us...we had categories of life basically..

it started with my immediate fam
then extended
then work
then mom and dads friends
then old work buddies and college friends
then neighborhood people

his side was...
the bp table with their guests and readers
his immediate
his extended
his friends from pa where he used to live
his group of buddies for years
then we had people who we invited that his sister wanted there and my sister worked with
then 2 tables of work buddies..one for his old shop,, another for his new one

Worked out soooo well!
