We're going to look at 4 houses in Levittown tonight, only because they're what we can afford. I looked in Levittown in November and saw 6 or 8 houses but I'm unsure of the area. Now hubby's *pushing* it since we're not finding anything else in our preferred areas (Bellmore, Wantagh). Does anyone know about the schools here, etc??
BTW, Junebride, whatever happened w/ the house you liked in Merrick? Or, what is the story w/ Merrick as a neighborhood? We saw one we liked there about a month ago but didn't really pursue it (priced too high). I'd be curious to know!

There`s nothing wrong with Levittown. It`s a typical middle-class area with 'decent' schools (not the best, but certainly not the worst). The reason the houses are more affordable in Levittown is because they are not incredibly large in size or in property(unless modifications to the original structure occurred) and most have no basement. Levittown offers alot of shopping and attractions (movie theatres, every kind of store imaginable). I grew up in Merrick and Levittown always had some false sterotypes attached to it, like everyone was 'tough' from Levittown school districts (especially football team players, etc.). It`s all in perception and I personally find areas like Merrick to be a little 'stuffy' with their attitudes (especially when they offer very little in terms of volume or value). The only beef I have with the area is that the houses were not constructed with the best materials, so insist on a termite inspection because slab homes have a termite problem tendency (I bought a termite disaster - take my word!!). Crime is not any higher/lower than in any other area. I say it`s a good location for the money and it`s central to any part of the Island. Good luck!

I went to Kennedy and Graduated in 91 my dad owns Savall Drugs on Merrick Ave Next to Camp Ave School....
