how close is everyone to their neighbors?? we're in the process of buying a house and our neighbors have already introduced themselves to us, which was nice. and one neighbor already asked my DH to play on his volleyball team.
i know its good to be friendly, but i dont know if we should become too friendly with our neighbors. what's everyone's take on this??

Re: neighbors
We moved into our house 2 years ago. We met our next door neigbors on each side right away and are pretty friendly with them. We just introduced ourselves to our across-the-street neighbors the week before the wedding, lol.

I am a big fan of knowing your neighbors. You might need to borrow something...whatever.
But they keep an eye on your house when you are not home/on vacation. If you ever have a problem you can ask them in a friendly way to take care of it.
I like knowing MY neigbors so if I see something fishy I can keep an eye on THEIR house.
Thats all.

Re: neighbors
Too close. We live in a row of townhouses. I can't wait to sell it and get our own little house, with my own driveway, and no neighbors attached!
Our neighbors are super inconsiderate with their parking and their garbage, so I've about had it after 7 years of it. The only neighbors we are semi friends with are a couple that lives a few doors down, with two little girls. They are nice and funny, and came to our wedding.

Re: neighbors
We have a good relationship with our neighbors. We've only been 'in' the house for about 7 months. One set of neighbors across the street introduced themselves when we went for our walk-through; the other set across the street stopped by the first night we had possession of the keys and everyone was stopping by to see the house (friends, my mom, etc.)
DH works strange hours so he knows ALL the neighbors. I, on the other hand, just do the wave and smile. We laugh about it all the time how he knows everyone and I know no one.

i think that's how me & my Dh are gonna be - i'm more of the 'wave and smile' type and he'll talk to anyone anytime lol

Re: neighbors
I never considered us all that friendly but our neighbor just sent DH a letter from jail. Yupp, jail.

Re: neighbors
We kind of just waive and say Hi to them. DH owns a landscaping company and landscapes a few of the houses on the block (he did that before we moved here).

We aren't super close with our neighbors but we say hello any time we see them and we chat with them outside a tiny bit once in a while.

Re: neighbors
When we moved in the neighbor on one side baked us cookies and one gave us a case of beer!
They're both like my parents age though, so we talk to them outside whenever we see them (DH prob more than me) but I wouldn't say we were friends.

Re: neighbors
I wish we were that friendly. We kind of have 4 neighbors bordering us because of the way our property sits. But they are all older then us. The youngest is in their 50s and George is 96, except one house which is full of renters we never talk to. But they border so little of our house we don't worry about them. I do hate the illegal renting going on though.
One neighbor we are close with considering the HUGE age difference. He loves my DH and wants to get him into the anglers club. DH helps him with his boat and always shows him his projects.
Another neighbor I was friends with their son in High School. Even made out with my HS sweetheart on their diving board and in their house. So thats a little weird. I toilet papered their house in High School which came back to bite me when it was brought up during our closing. I was mortified.

Us Too!!!!! We have officially been in the house for 1 week and have only met the lady across the street from us. The neighbors who live to the left of us stood on their porch and watched us as the moving truck unloaded stuff and did not even say hello!!!!! At first the wife came out stared at us and then went back in and 2 seconds later the husband came out stared at us and then wnet back in!!! ***!!!!! Are you kidding me? I have not even seen the other neighbors. DH and I are starting to think we are jinxes!!!

Re: neighbors
We've been in our house just about a year and we've met the people on both sides of us, and then the people next door to them on both sides, and both houses across the street.
Everyone is much older than us, so we are smile and wavers too. I'd say we are closest with the people directly across because they've been the most friendly, but I think I'm closer to their sons age than theirs!
