My boss is the owner of the company I work for. He has his oldest son working here as a tech in the field, his younger daughter works here PT as a receptionist, and even his younger daughter's boyfriend works here! His older daughter will go to events and functions when her dad can't go and speak on behalf of the company.
The worst is that the oldest son had some sort of problems (we think drugs and/or jail time) and stopped working here over a year ago. Haven't heard a word about him since then. Well, I get back to the office today and learn that he's back!!!
I am just SO disgusted by this whole thing. And of course his kids can get away with whatever they want! UCK!!! Sorry, I just needed to share!

Re: Nepotism
networking not nepotism lol! and sometimes it can be a great thing- picking someone you who know is reliable, unless of course you have family/friends that are completely useless!

Re: Nepotism
I completely feel your pain. The man who started the company I work at is an amazing man. His son is a sh*thead, and that's putting it nicely. He has a lot of problems and has been in and out of rehab. It pisses me off that I have a BA and a MA and work for pretty much peanuts and he's here simply because of who his father is. If he was a good person it wouldn't bother me but he may quite possibly be the anti-christ, altough that's not confirmed.

Re: Nepotism
nope, I hear ya!! it suckss!
I used to work at a Preschool and this KIND of went on, but in a different way. The Director had her kids working there, but they were actually highly qualified and did an AWESOME job. The thing that bugged me though is that her freakin' GRANDCHILDREN would come who were only a year or two old (when our youngest age limit is 3). I hated that. If the rule of the preschool is that your kids must be potty trained, then why on earth can YOUR grandkids come and take away all of the teacher's attention. They were just babies - they needed their diapers changed, they needed to be fed and kept out of trouble. It was really stressful when I had a group of 15 three year olds to teach, and then some annoying little toddlers would come wobbling in and make the classroom a disaster (tearing things off the walls & bulletin boards, hitting and biting the other kids, etc - they're babies, they don't understand). And I had to put up with it just because they were related to the director. That pissed me off BAD.
And what was annoying too, is that the actual owner/supervisor of the place has adult children, and these people would just drop off their kids as though we were babysitters. Like the mom wants to go shopping or to get her hair done - they just drop off their kids for an hour or so (who were not even enrolled in the school). I HATED that. It's so wrong and not the way we run. I don't think there should be privileges for people JUST BECAUSE THEIR RELATED TO SOMEBODY IN CHARGE.
So yessss - you are not alone. It's just not right
