Ok ladies...I am sick and tired of my gym. It's too darn hot in there and after complaining the owner told me perhaps I should exercise in a tank top! I couldnt believe the b alls on her! I said actually, I did exercise in a tank top and rolled up my pants. My sweatshirt is on so i cna get the heck out of this place! I also told her that since we can't exercise naked, perhaps she could open the door if she is too cheap to put the AC on! lol
I have a week free pass to try out world gym in coram. Il ive in middle island...any suggestions for good gyms around? I dont need anything fancy...I kind of need a 'man's gym' for the type of weight training i do...please help!!

See if there is a Planet Fitness near you. It's cheap and no frills. A lot of cardio machines, weight machines and circuit training.

I agree about planet fitness - used to belong to one by where I used to work - I loved it. I really miss not having one closer to me. I really loved their 30 min circuit area!

yeah im gonna check that out...i checked out powerhouse in miller place, and today im going tow orld gym.
My thing with planet fitness is that i feel weird belionging to a gym that has pizza parties ya know? i feel like thats silly! hahaha Also, i liked the option of taking spinning classes as well and since there are no classes that would be out. I eventually want to start teaching spin again so it would be good to find a gym that has it so i can get a free membership lol

I might check out the new Retro Fitness in Dix Hills...but the LI locations are probably too far for you, Dix Hills, Deer Park, and East Farmingdale. I went to Energy in St. James for 2 weeks before I threw up after a Pilates class and never went back Other than that, I liked it there, they had a ton of classes and machines, but it was mad expensive to join.

honestly lauren I think you would do best at a Powerhouse/Gold's type of gym. A lot of the no frills gyms aren't going to have some of the weight machines you are going to want.
Im too far west to suggest anything but I would try Powerhouse or golds....
Is Ronkonkoma too far? I used to go to World Gym at the RR station when I lived out at my parents....liked it and was reasonably priced and definitely have the weights

I go to Gold's Gym where I live now and I love the Les Mills programs -- I love that they vary it from day to do so even if I go at the same time every day (which I do), I have the option of taking a variety of different classes. I find it incredibly motivating and work very hard! Also, after 6 straight months of going to the gym 5 days a week, I STILL get sore sometimes!!! It's awesome.
I think there are some Gold's on LI but I'm not sure where (for some reason I think there's actually one in Farmingdale) -- I'd definitely look into it.
I've also heard the Synergy in Long Beach is fabulous -- really modern gym with great equipment, classes, etc. -- but I've never been there myself.

I belong to Planet Fitness and in nearly a year of being a member I have never witnessed a pizza party. They have them I just have never been there. It is only once a month. The location I go to is really nice and clean. They just got all new machines and it is open 24hrs a day M-Thurday they close at 10 PM on Friday and are open 7-7 Saturday and Sunday- it is $10/month with a $29 annual fee.
