Re: New Orleans Recommendations

I was there for just 24 hours on my cross country trip!
After you walk through the touristy part of the french quarter, there is a quieter more residential section...I really liked that. We ate at Commanders Palace which was great...but there are probably other, more authentic or contemporary places.
We loved it!

Re: New Orleans Recommendations

I just went there for a bachelorette party - it is such a fun town! Wasn't crazy about our hotel though - we stayed at the Holiday Inn French Quarter on Royal Street. It was kinda dirty...my husband was there for a bachelor party and stayed at the Doubletree which is right across from Harrah's casino. He liked that hotel, very big rooms, clean, it's just not in the heart of the French Quarter, but if you don't mind a 10 minute walk to Bourbon Street it's still a great location.

As far as restaurant recommendations, definitely eat at Deanie's, and Acme Oyster House - both have great seafood. Also eat at Cafe Du Monde for breakfast/brunch - get the Beignets and Cafe Au Lait, that's what they're known for.

There's also Margaritaville, close to Cafe Du Monde, both are on Decatur Street. The Cathedral is close to them too, and the architecture in that area is absolutely gorgeous.

Go to Fat Tuesday's for the best frozen daiquiri's. The great thing about New Orleans is that you can go to any bar/club and walk out with your drink on the street.

Don't eat at The Checkered Parrot, which was connected to our Holiday Inn - the meat was bad in our hamburgers and we had to ask for a refund!

FM me if you need more details.

we went there and had a blast- we stayed in the french quarter right on bourbon street- The Inn on Bourbon (by Ramada)- we also took a river cruise one night which was really fun- I'll see if I can find where we stayed and everything

we also went to a really nice museum- I think it was a ww2 one- I'll go home & look through my pictures and get back to you- we had an amazing time though
