New York City Clip Art

I know this really doesn't belong on this side of the board but since you girls have all done your favors already and are into scrapbooking, I thought you could help. I also wanted to reach the few that may not visit BHB much. We are in the starting phase of putting together our CD favors and I want to put different New York City images on the cover. I have found some sites that offer NYC clip art but not many. Any ideas on other ways to get images on the cover? Thanks!!

I looked for a long time and found virtually nothing I liked. Surprisingly, there is very little tasteful clipart out there.

What are you looking for? I have the little I found saved somewhere.

Thanks Stef. I am looking for some black and white images of the city. Maybe landmark buildings, taxi cab etc. I found it very difficult as well to find anything tasteful to use. I thought it would be the easiest thing.

There are a few pay for clipart sites that have a few good things. www.clipart.com has the best selection - you can search for free but cant download a high res file unless you pay. Its fairly cheap if you do a one month subscription.

The free stuff stinks (at least what I have found).

I try to stay away from clipart whenever I can b/c it can sometimes cheese things up unless you find the perfect selection.

I agree clip art can be very cheesy but not sure how to get images in other ways. I am looking into a few others and am willing to pay for a months subscription if they have images I would like to use. Any ideas about a company that does this kind of stuff?

www.clipart.com has the best selection i have seen.

THere is one good free resoure that Microsoft provides for free. Have you checked there?







Not as good or nearly as large of a selection as the pay sites but it might have something you can use.

Another idea is to use photographs and edit them in such a way to makethem look a little more like clipart.

Thanks so much Stef. The 4th image is what I am looking for but in b&w. I don't know about the Microsoft one. What is the name of it? I found a great site but the images had the name of the artist through the middle of each picture. I have to check to see if you subscribe you can then use the images.

Someone else suggested scanning pictures and postcards and trying to edit them to size. I don't have much experience with scanning but it might work. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

The fourth one i listed is from the Microsoft site. Go in to MS Word, insert Clip Art and then choose 'Clips ONline'. YOu can do a search on New York and download that one for free.

Although there is a runner jogging across that bridge so you probably need to airbrush him out to use for your wedding stuff.

Edited to add: If you found something you really love that has a watermark on it, that means that owner of that art wants to sell the rights to use it. If you email him and explain your situation, he would probably give it to you for pretty cheap.

I was going to suggest scanning too. You know we have a scanner & will do anything for you!

Because you have sooooo much time on your hands, have you thought of maybe taking the pics yourself... then scanning? I just bought the disposable b&w cameras at Walmart- if you want, we can make a city day out of it- divide and conquer? Let me know if you need me to start snapping away. I work near the iron building- and the bridges are easy for me.

I'll also ask the art buyers here at work about clip art, and FM you if I get any good suggestions

I have my digital too and you know you girls can always borrow it - you can make the pictures b/w - don't have to be in color!

I thought of taking the pictures myself as well since I got a new digital camera at my shower but didn't know if they would come out the way I wanted. Niecey found a great website that has some great images so hopefully that will work. I will def call on you guys if I need help. THANK YOU!

It has stock photography - there looks like a fee is attached (I didn't read the whole site yet) but not too bad. We searched by NYC on the site.
