Newlywed help...what do I need for marriage license?

Since you guys have gone through it:

I tried calling, but there was no answer, maybe lunchtime?

I tried looking on the internet, but nothing is really specific.

proof of age...yes
SS#...one site said if you have it memorized thats fine, you don't need to bring the card (I cannot find mine)
parent information...how specific...both FHs parents were not born in this country, but they have SS# and we have their SS#s...is that good?

Hi Yabbo, if I remember correctly, you just need your drivers license and a money order -- but that was in Queens. You can either go into theknot.com and search for marriage license or call your local town hall. When you put in New York, it'll bring up all towns, so find your town and it will tell you exactly what you need.

As for your parents birth place, I put down the country my father was born in (Italy) and that's it. Can you believe I can't remember and it was only 9 months ago that I went for it!!!

It was quick and painless! Good luck!

if you have a Drivers Licence and no birth cert (like my husband) you can use work id..

Re: Newlywed help...what do I need for marriage license?

We got ours in Suffolk County (town of Brookhaven), and showed our driver's licenses and 1 other form of ID. Patrick used his Social Security card, and I used my birth certificate. We also brought a bank statement, major credit cards, car loan stuff, and the contract for our house. We didn't need any of the extra stuff, but we both took the day off from work and wanted to make sure all bases were covered!
By the way, learn a lesson from me... if for any reason you need to do anything with your original birth certificate, KEEP CAREFUL TRACK OF IT! I lost mine the day we got our marriage license and didn't realize it until the day before our wedding. I then nearly had a nervous breakdown because I needed it to go on our honeymoon. Fortunately I got a new one in about 10 minutes from the town hall in the town I was born in, but I could have done WITHOUT the extra stress!!!!

PS, I have since found the missing birth certificate... WHEW!
