Newlyweds, do you think this MOB dress is too casual?

We're having a semiformal day wedding:

What do you think

I think it's very pretty - I also think it doesn't matter on day or night but your preference - I got married in the day and we wore what we wanted ... a little more on the formal side.

Now, how can I convince mom to keep the dress?

She liked the silver version of this in the store and we purchased it, and now thinks it makes her too pale, and that she needs something to 'brighten her up'. She kept on looking at the prom style dresses, wishing they came with jackets to cover herself up.

We've been pretty unsuccessful in trying to find a dressy suit to fit her well.

Maybe you can get a pretty flower corsage (one of those big one bud ones instead of the tradition kind) in a bright color to add to the dress to brighten her up a bit.

Sort of like this:

Very nice. Good color for the summer/spring.

Stef, mom hates flowers on clothing, but thank you for a good suggestion.

She is driving me insane, that's all I have to say.

I wonder if its related to the wonderful menopause stuff that women go through.

Alina, its not my style but that dress is fine.

If she really doesnt like the dress, let her exchange it for whatever she wants. She has to wear it afterall right? Maybe you will like her new selection better.

Well, I am no longer going shopping with her, with 2.5 months till the wedding, my weekends aren't as free any longer.

Does she want you to shop with her?

Edited to add: Duh - you already answered that.

Dont feel guilty, you did your duty the first time around. If she really hates it, she will find something on her own..otherwise she will grow to like it.

Stef, she waited until March to really start shopping for the dress, meanwhile I was pushing her to get it done in Dec. b/c of all the New Year's gowns being out...

I am soooo upset!!!!

Dont stress about it. ( i know thats easier said than done)

You helped her find a perfectly suitable gown. If she really doesnt like it then just tell her how busy you are but you are more than happy to let her get something else...you just cant shop with her.

Has she checked out Macy's and Ann Taylor? How would she feel about a suit instead of a dress?

Edited to add:

What about online sources (so you dont have to shop)?

Stef, we checked out Macy's. She usually doesn't go to Ann Taylor, b/c their stuff is typically short on her (my mom is 5'9', if you can believe it). I also think that she may find the Ann Taylor stuff not be dressy enough for the wedding... But perhaps I'll mention it to her, and then she has another option to visit. At least it won't be a $700 suit, as some places wanted.

Stef, I'll run the online stuff by her. How is Chadwicks quality/fit?

We've tried on some things by Avanti at RK and hated the quality, it seemed that a lot of dresses are made of the fabric that doesn't 'conceal' anything. So now I am a little worried in that respect about the online things.

I never bought stuff at chadwicks myself, so can't really judge from my own experience.

I know how you feel! My mom was the biggest pain in the neck when it came to finding her dress. She drove me nuts. She actually, believe it or not, found her dress at JC Penny's after searching for months. Don't stress about it - It's the last thing you need right now -
As far as that dress goes, I think it's perfect for a wedding.
Hang in there!

Years ago, I bought a few items from Chadwicks. Not the absolute best quality but for something that is only going to be worn once, good enough. I actually bought a black suit from them years ago and I still wear the jacket all the time.

I have issues about buying stuff from catalogs so I havent bought anything from them in a while...but I think they have a 100% return policy so there is little risk.
