The last time we went, we stayed at the Hyatt Regency on Goat Island (right outside of Newport), it was nice. We were there in December and it was quiet so we ended up with an upgrade to a suite

It gets more crowded and more expensive in the summer .... I'd probably suggest going towards the end of April, when its nice enough to walk around but not too tourist-ey. Caroline might have a better gauge on timing than I do though
