DH and I have decided to go here for the weekend. Now I need your help.
We're staying at the Viking Hotel and I need to come up with some activities to do on Sat and Sunday.
I'm thinking a winery tour, mansion tour..... any recs? There seem to be a lot of things to do in Newport and I'd really appreciate the help in narrowing down my list.

When we were there, the weather wasn't great, so we went to a glass blowing place and took a lesson. It was so much fun. They shipped the items we made a few weeks later.
Here's the info:
THAMES GLASS GLASSBLOWING STUDIO AND GALLERY 688 Thames St., Newport, 401-846-0576. Watch glassblowers craft molten glass into vases, fish, fruits, vegetables, ornaments, snowmen and other original designs by Matthew Buechner. Take a glassblowing lesson! Since 1981. www.thamesglass.com

go to the breakers and take a tour of the Vanderbilt Mansion! Then walk along the breakers! Take a walk down Thames street. Get great Clam Chowder at THE BLACK PEARl.
I lived there, so I know!
Enjoy!

that hotel is gorgeous!!! we stayed there when DH's cousin got married last year. It was in the winter so there wasn't much to do - we went to the beach nearby - im sure its even more beautiful in the warm weather!

When we went to RI we did 2-3 mansions in a day and then went to a vineyard. I think we found like 3 vineyards while we were there. And then we also spent time walking around the town and went to dinner. We went for 3 nights and pretty much thats all we had time for. But we loved that trip!

the summer is prime season, and the most expensive time to go.
my favorite time of year to go is actually the fall ... the trees are gorgeous on the drive up I-95 and its less expensive.
but i'm not much of a summer person anyway

Re: Newport, Rhode Island Ladies!
Get the pass that covers several of the mansions and tour them all.
Also nice to eat in one of the restaurants over the water.
