I have 1000MG Ibuprophen (prescription) that I have to take. But it makes my tummy feel like it is burning inside. I eat when I take them, but it still does that.....do you know if that's normal?

Re: Nurses! I have a question......
I am not a nurse, but I know for a fact that ibuprofin is very rough on your stomach. Always take it with a decent meal.....never on an empty stomach.

That's a strong dose.. I am not a nurse, but I take prescription Motrin (Ibruprofin) from time to time.. I take like 500mg though and that sometimes upsets my stomach.. Maybe cut the pill in half??

Hey chica, 1000mg is a lot! How often do you have to take it? Taking it with food is very imp but if your tummy feels like it's burning - this may be a sign of an ulcer Ibuprofen may cause ulceration of the stomach or intestine, and the ulcers may bleed. Sometimes, ulceration can occur without abdominal pain, and black, tarry stools, weakness, and dizziness upon standing due to bleeding may be the only signs of an ulcer.
I recommend making an app with the doctor that prescribed it and telling him your symptoms

Thanks Ev.......
I have to take it every 8 hours, but I feel that it's just WAY too much! UGH......I think if it keeps up like this, then I will go see my doc. on Tuesday and see what he she says. I really don't like that feeling at all......I also get VERY nauseaus on them too..........I know the label on the bottle says it may make me feel that way, so I was aware of that, just not the burning feeling.......

Ugh, I feel so bad for you! You poor thing. The only prob is that if this is an ulcer, the only difinitive way of treating it is stopping the medication...I'm assuming you have to keep taking it....so I don't know what he'll tell you. I'm sorry about the nausea too- side effect suuck!!! Hope you feel better! p.s - LOVE the avatar!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ibuprofen is a NSAID. It's a class of drug. It is common to cause stomach problems. ALot of people just can't take it. Even if they take it with meals. It just doesn't agree with them.

I must be one of those people because even WITH food, it still bothers me..... I've been on these for the past 3 days now ..... I'll take them until Tuesday morning until I can see my doctor again. But wowzers! Not a good feeling AT ALL.
