Do to recent stomach issues, I must be more focused on nutrition and what I am eating. I was wondering if any of you had opinions on high fructose corn syrup (or there might be some nutritionists or food experts on here which would be very helpful as well).
I have done my research and most of it is negative, but wondering if anyone else agrees/disagrees and if you have attempted to eliminate it from your diet, etc.
thanks!

Re: Nutrition Question (re: high fructose corn syrup)
It is a highly processed product and it is in a LOT of foods. It is cheaper to use than cane sugar and is sweeter.
It is one of the things that I would like to eliminate from my diet, to get back to a more 'natural' way of eating. Have to read a lot of labels. I'm drinking a pink lemonade snapple and the second ingredient is HFCS.

.
yeah, I was just gonna say this. I try not to but anything w/ HFCS, but you'd be surprised how much stuff it's in, even bread!!! I've been fighting w/ DH about not drinking Gatorade anymore b/c that's one of the first ingredients.
From Dr. Oz:
Dr. Oz says the body processes the sugar in high-fructose corn syrup differently than it does old-fashioned cane or beet sugar, which in turn alters your body's natural ability to regulate appetite. 'It blocks the ability of a chemical called leptin, which is the way your fat tells your brain it's there,' says Dr. Oz.
I got this from Oprah's website.

Thanks for the responses, I agree with everyone - I am trying to eliminate it from the diet but you are right - its hard because its in everything and I couldn't believe when I saw it in bread - I have to fine bread that doesnt have it...

I recently went to a nutritionist and she said that HFCS is one of the worst things for you. I've switched to a natural sweetener called Agave nectar. Its made from cactuses and is most similar to honey. I found it in Stop and Shop and its pretty good.

That's a great idea - I heard thats a great natural sweetener. and thats perfect to sweeten things...
the only problem is all the foods that ALREADY have the HFCS... which is like everything!

Its so frustrating because basically every packaged food has them. I've been trying hard to only eat fresh and organic food and its really hard!! My nutritionist always says to stick to the perimeter of the grocery store-- the produce, meat and dairy sections-- and avoid the aisles. Its nearly impossible, but I find that if I keep the idea in my head, it helps.

Re: Nutrition Question (re: high fructose corn syrup)
ever since i watched an Oprah episode with Dr. Oz raiding someone's fridge and cabinets, i've made major changes in the groceries i buy. i read every label of everything i buy.. i can basically tell right away if ishouldnt bother reading the label or not... somethings are tricky though- items that you think would be 'healthy' like fiber one bars- surprise surprise...
i def. avoid anything with HFCS and hydrogenated oils. as for your bread question, i believe Pepperidge farm has a whole wheat or whole grain bread that does not have HFCS. I think its the bread with fiber in it... and it doesnt have enriched or unbleached flour in it either. also an important factor...
good luck!!
