Morning ladies!

So is your DH a 'handyman' or is he somewhat inept at household (or apartmenthold) maintenence - meaning like fixing things or making improvements? Or somewhere in between? Or are YOU the handywoman?

I always expected that my DH would just naturally know how to do things like putting up sheetrock, fixing leaky faucets, etc. I thought it was just something that men instinctively KNEW how to do. Yeah, not so much. When something requires a screwdriver or a hammer, it's pretty much my responsibility. Oddly enough, he can lay tile like a pro, but if the faucet is leaking, I hear 'babe... do you know what to do with this?'
In his defense, he didn't have a father growing up, and his theory is that these are things that men learn how do to by helping their fathers when growing up. Since he didn't have that, he's clueless. Not sure how true that is, but I can't get mad at him for that!

I'm pretty dam handy. I can hang drywall, lay tile and wood floors so I could never be in relationship with someone who wasnt at the very least as handy as I am.

DH & I make a great team. We gutted the entire house and put it all back together ourselves so I think we are beyond handy and bordering on pros now.

DH *thinks* he's a handyman but the sad truth is that he's not.

I, on the other hand, am a total handyman. I honestly think it's because I didn't have a dad growing up (it was just me, my mom and my sisters) so we had no choice but to learn to do stuff on our own. I always say, give me duct tape, a hammer and a butter knife for a screwdriver and I can fix just about anything.

Oh and DH has a hard time admitting that I'm much more handy than he is (fragile male ego ) so I try to do all the handyman stuff when he's not home so I don't have to hear 'are you sure you're doing it right?' He just comes home and things are fixed - it's less stressful that way.

DH is very handy - thank GOD. He used to work with his father who owns a commercial plumbing company, so that helped out A LOT. His father is also very handy, and almost never hires people to fix things in their house, so DH has taken after that.

His main 'chores' in the house are to do the yardwork (either mowing or shoveling) and maintaining the pool.

He painted the whole house when we moved in and did a bunch of re-sheet-rocking. He recently installed a new kitchen faucet for me, has fixed leaks in the bathroom, installed some light fixtures, and put down floorboards in our attic.

In all honesty (and I'd never tell him this, lol) I don't know what I'd do without him

DH is very handy, but he's a union carpenter so he better be handy!

i'm actually pretty handy myself. Growing up my dad worked crazy hours so he was rarely around when things needed fixing and my mom is clueless when it comes to that stuff. Impatient me could never wait so I would spend hours figuring out how to fix whatever it was. Between DH and I we get stuff done!

My husband is very handy in EVERYTHING. He is good at everything he does. It amazes me really. But FIL is a contractor/carpenter so DH has picked up ALOT of useful experience working with him when he was younger. THANK GOODNESS!

Me - Im actually not so bad either. I think im better with electronics though. I can hook up anything. DVDs Flat screen TVs surround sound. etc. Know idea why just can. lol

DH need to use the internet to learn how to tie a tie!!!!!

But with that said DH has used the internet to fix the leaky faucet amongst many other things in our home.

He is very inquisitive and loves when he learns something new!!!

HE IS CURRENtly messing around with landscaping here and there....

DH is extremely handy. And so is his father, so if there is something DH isn't good at, like electrical work, his father is.

DH happens to be very handy...in fact, right before he moved out here from Ohio, he installed 2 toilets for his parents in their house...honestly (im a nerd) it was SUCH a turn-on and a complete relief!!!

I'm definitely handy as well...we're both handy in the way that we can look at something and figure out how it works and fix it that way...its not like we have implicit knowledge of how to fix things.

DH knows how to some stuff, but he's a computer guy. So he's much better with electronics and things of that nature.

As far as I go, I can hang pictures and that's about it.

DH is FAR from handy. sometimes it kind of upsets me because he seems like he doesn't want to learn how to be handy or do anything so i feel like eventually i will be doing things around the house... in the meantime thank goodness for my father who has been helping us fix things, but i know i can't rely on him forever. oh well...
