For me, DH has a thing where he always has to sleep closest to the door. Maybe it's a protective thing, but even when we go to hotels or whatever, it's not like he always picks the left or right side, he picks the side closest to the door.

DH always sleeps closest to the door, I think it's more of my own psychological thing. I want him to protect me. It works out because that puts me on the right side, which I always sleep on!! and next to the window. It's pretty much the exact setup I had in my parents home
